Playing Minecraft together, remotely

My DS (10) and his friend both love Minecraft. They both play on the PS3.

Pre-Covid, they'd get together and play using multi-screen. Is there any way for them to play together remotely? But limiting the ability of random people to join in?

Thanks!

Hi I think you can create a server and give access to the friend. I'm exploring similar cos my 5yo is desperate to play with others. I'm not savvy enough to tell you how, but hopefully knowing it is possible will send you down the right Google route!

Yes, you can. I'm not even going to try and explain how as I'll probably confuse you! lots of youtube tutorials and step by step instructions online.

Excellent, thank you so much!
My husband loves a YouTube tutorial 😁
I'll hopefully get it sorted at the weekend.
