Best virtual reality headset?

Was thinking of getting one to help with the boredom of being cooped up.

I’m not a big time gamer. Though I do quite like world of Warcraft but haven’t played for ages. I don’t have a decent gaming laptop anymore. No dedicated graphics card. No PlayStation.

Is an Occulus Quest the best one as it doesn’t need a high powered computer? I mean my laptop has an i7 processor but the graphics won’t be up to anything. Dd has a gaming desktop but I want everyone to be able to use it, not be tied to dds bedroom.

I’m struggling to see what games are available for the quest. Downloaded the app but without registering a headset I can’t get very far. I saw Moss which looked good and also the National Geographic one. I quite like the idea of some sort of Virtual hiking app. Not sure if the National geographic one does that.

Is the quest the only one which doesn’t need a computer?

We have just bought an Oculus Quest and it's brilliant!

NotJustACigar · 25/04/2020 06:12

Does anyone else have an Oculus Quest? Did you end up getting one OP? I've just bought one and am waiting for it to arrive. In terms of hiking, the app Wander looks great for that.

Absolutely oculus quest, we got one at Christmas and it’s used every day. It’s fab!

VivaLeBeaver · 13/05/2020 21:22

Sorry, yes I got the Quest. Totally love it. Im addicted to BeatSaber. Have also been using Wander to explore the world. Dh is addicted to VR YouTube videos and I’ve found some great ones as well.

I got an Oculus Quest* as a totally unexpected Christmas present from my DH and I love it. It's great for watching Netflix and Amazon Prime on a cinema size screen! On Netflix it's a living room setting (also void theatre if you want to watch it lying down) in Amazon Prime a theatre setting. Lots of other fun things too - wildlife, space....

*DH has never used it so was definitely for me and not him!

I have an Oculus Quest. Is brilliant and you don't need a PC or anything, or even be big on games. I am also addicted to Beat Saber... Synth Riders is amazing though and I would really recommend that one.
My mum has a Quest too and we often play Walkabout Mini Golf together.
Open the browser in your headset and type in moonrider.xyz is a free game similar to Beat Saber but has a ton of songs on it.

I've just bought an Oculus Quest 2 for DS1's birthday. Do I need to buy any extras for him to use it? Can anyone quickly explain how you get started with it?

MattTebbutsForearms · 04/02/2021 13:05

I've also just bought an oculus quest 2 and its arriving tomorrow so came on here for some info re: apps / games.

Hopeful bump for PP

A lot of people buy a different strap for it but it is worth seeing if he gets on with the one it comes with first. Another popular extra is a different pad for where is rests on your face. I have a silicone cover for mine as it is easy to keep clean (you will get sweaty playing it). It is really easy to set up. You need to have the Oculus app on your phone and link his Facebook account.... it is then just a case of following the onscreen instructions.

I assume you are already up and running with it now. What games did you get?

Another for oculus quest 2 here. Bought for Xmas and has been used every day by adults and kids. Worth every penny. You can cast it on the tv and rest of the family can watch you play. We're addicted to escape rooms at the moment and beat saber!! Trying to decide if we should buy the elite strap with battery, it was out of stock at Xmas.

YouTediousShit · 16/02/2021 12:54

@XenoBitch Silicone cover sounds a good tip thanks.
I've only gotten round to having the time for ot now as it's half term. So far DD is enjoying Job Simulator and Vacation simulator. We have the free Echo app which is highly rated but we aren't sure of. I've downloaded the Vader Immortal app which I think is amazing value at £7.99, but it freaks DD out so that ones just for me. Another free one called Rec Room. And my personal fave Beat Saber which is getting my sorry ass off the sofa at last! I've downloaded Netflix and YouTube, but not done much yet with them.
What I'm finding hard to find are these nature walk type ones. Maybe I'm not looking in the right place. Maybe they are on YouTube...

The Elite strap is well known to break, even with very light use.

Nature Treks app is good. Also, good ole YouTube and search for 360 videos.

It all depends on the game and the capabilities of your machine, but now there is a lightweight software for this. They even use visengine.com/what-is-virtual-tour/ to sell real estate, so I think you should start by choosing games and adjust your computer for them. I liked Alex very much.
