Nintendo Switch Online Family Membership - help please!!!

I hope someone can help!

I bought my two sons a Nintendo Switch each for Christmas. I set up an account online in my name and then set up their accounts under mine so I could set up the parental controls.

I then bought a 12 month online family membership, for which I have the redemption code. However, when I try to redeem it I just get an error message (9001-00266_). I don’t have a console for my use so I don’t know what to do!

I read the Support on the Nintendo website and I was still at a loss. I emailed Nintendo Support and was told link to my Nintendo account with the Switch console. Does this mean I have to set up an account on both of the consoles? I'm very confused! I'm normally quite intelligent but this has me stumped!!

Any help gratefully received!

You would need to link your Nintendo account to one of the two switches, I think you would need to log on to the switch using your account to do this. DH says once it's done the first time your account is then linked until you remove it so you should only need to do this once, and not every 12 months.

When we log into our switch we usually have the 4 accounts to choose from to select who's playing, the two parent accounts and then the two DC accounts, this should mirror on both consoles if you log into both switches with your account, so they should be both then set up with the relevant controls and online membership.

If you don't have physical access to the switch you may be better ringing the support line to explain this.
