Sims 4

I used to play a lot when I was younger. I have an urge to play again over Christmas. However, all I have is a 8 year old mac laptop which is already slow and laggy. Am I likely to kill it off by downloading Sims?! Is there any way to play online so that I don't have to use loads of memory?

Thanks in advance!

Hi,
Sims 4 now uses Origin which you download to the computer and it runs online so I don't think it would kill off your computer but I did find that my laptop wasn't able to handle the graphics and the game play was really slow.
So it could be a waste of money if you can't play properly.

Sims 4 is awful. Sims 3 is much better! And would work on your mac!

@PeanutCat I've never heard of Origin! That's so cool. Does this mean it takes up less storage space?

@loutypips Interesting! Why is sims 4 worse?

No, still takes up loads of space on origin Hmm

I hate the sims 4! Yes it looks a bit better, but there's less you can change, such as clothes colours or in buy mode. Also, the loading screens in 4 gets tedious after the open world in 3.

Another vote for 3 rather than 4.

I don't think I've got enough memory to have it Xmas Sad It says you need 4GB RAM and I've checked and it says I've already used 3.4 GB of the 4GM RAM on my 2013 mac pro. Any ideas?

I had a 4GB PC, and it struggled. I recently upgraded to 16GB and it runs well now. I like Sims 4 (but I never played anything before this.)

Origin have released a legacy version which is incompatible with 2019 downloads and expansions but runs on older and 32bit computers and macs. They've moved to metal software which don't support older gaming devices. The legacy version is a free download when you have The Sims 4 and can be uninstalled and use the normal version when you use a newer supported device.

4gig is too low for Sims 4. As is an 8 year old Mac - they just haven't got the graphics for it, you'd need a 2015 with the fancier graphics at oldest.

And 4 isn't a patch on 3, for my money. Go play 3 instead!

I HATE the Sims 4 and am so mad for buying it at such a high price when it first came out when EA ended up giving it away for free for a while after some years online (through Origin, I believe).

I haven’t played the Sims 3 so can’t compare but Sims 2 is way better (except for graphics wise). Sims 4 is so babyish. I like the fact in the Sims that you basically have control over what your sims do but Sims 4 has so much “your task is to plant 20 tomato plants”. I know Sims have always had wants and desires but never as specific as “do this specific task to advance a level in xxx”

I just contacted EA and got the Ultimate Sims 2 download instead - for free, via origin! Base game with every single expansion pack and stuff pack that was released included :) This was ages ago though, they’re probably doing the same for the Sims 3 now!

I must have spent like 150 on sims 4 and expansions and it still feels...empty. Waste of money. Uninstalled it so I wasnt tempted to waste more on it. Sims 2 and 3 are way better.

The earlier sims games are the best. Sims 4 is awful.
