I really need some help. I am a total novice and have a rubbish phone so my questions are:

  1. What is the cheapest phone I could buy that would run Pokémon Go? I need a new one anyway.
  2. My son is 8 and loves Pokémon. He plays it on his Nintendo 2DS and watches the episodes- do you think he will enjoy Pokémon Go or will it be to hard for him?
  3. Will it get him out and about. I have hopes of lots of walking!
  4. Do you have to spend real money to play it?

Thank you.

My ds used to play it too but now I'm the only sad git playing it in the family. Should be easy enough for him to play. I haven't spent any money on it

Cant comment on phones but my 2 sons, 7 and 10, love playing it on my phone. Especially the 10yr old who is pokemon obsessed and also plays it on his Nintendo ds, watches all the shows, reads all the books and has a load of toys...... pokemon and Lego is all he lives for. And I have managed to get them to leave the house and go for long walks all week without a single complaint (lucky dog getting good walks as well). And I've not spent a penny since I downloaded it in 2016.

You csnt6go wrong with the moto G range - my old moto 5 plays it, but a little laggy. The G7 play should be fine and the g6 play is still around, £20 cheaper, and probably OK, if not lightning fast, too
www.johnlewis.com/motorola-g7-play-dual-sim-free-smartphone-android-5-7-inch-4g-lte-sim-free-32gb-indigo/p4041363 It runs like a dream on my honor9 but the honor 9 lite would be possibly be better than the moto phones, as it has more RAM. The honor 10 is out, so the 9 lite will probably end up on sale, at some point but it's about £150 at John Lewis. Not looked elsewhere. www.johnlewis.com/honor-9-lite-dual-sim-smartphone-android-5-65-inch-4g-lte-sim-free-32gb-sapphire-blue/p3439888

And, no, I don't spend real money on it but I do Google opinion rewards and use the credit for egg incubators etc.
