I won't get stressed if gift opening goes tits up anyway; it's still 50,000 more than if I hadn't been on the thread and the gifts are all free. I'll just befriend more of you and start again.

The event lasted just under two weeks, which is plenty of time

Was joking about the discrimination but would take issue with the fact that it's "plenty of time". My nearest pokestop is about a mile away, but there are hardly any gyms and I just can't drop everything and rush 5 miles away to clock up another raid towards the 10 I need. Other events I haven't struggled with as much but this one has been almost impossible. On the last event which was something like "spin 5 pokestops you haven't been to before" I had to drive about 25 minutes away to hit the first one.

I've just read Wailmer's link. There's some great tips in there, including:
Save your lucky eggs until the community weekend and level up friendships then!
That way you can be looking at quadrupled XP on your catches.

@BaronessBomburst that's a valid point... if we wait till Saturday at say 10am it should mean a whole lot more xp all round...

I say 10am as I'm going to parkrun snd I expect a slowish time with a hangover do will finish running around 9:35 ish and should be in the cafe with tea by 10am....

OK, so shall we all just stick a lucky egg on at 10am on saturday and do gifts then? I'm aware I'm going ultra with @putthehamsterbackinitscage and @rupeomatic by then. Gives me a chance to get some anyway as I'm ending up pretty busy this week.

CookieSwirlC It’s in the latest update. All Pokemon that aren’t from the current calendar year will have a tag specifying when they were caught/hatched.

It’s the new update, Cookie, any Pokemon not caught in the current calendar year have a little date banner now. It’s because older mons have a higher chance of being lucky when you trade, so now you can identify them more easily.

Fed up of trying to make contact with people to level up and they just go ahead and do it without you anyway, grr!

@pottypotamus the info on the news bit on Pokémon go says double catch cup but if you're also using an egg you'll get double on all of those ...

pottypotamus No, it’s not double XP for everything. It’s 2x XP for catching, 2x catch stardust and 1/2 egg hatch distance.

Sorry, posted too soon. I crack an egg every half an hour anyway to increase the amount of XP so if you’re also doing that it would be worth claiming them at the same time.
