Gacha Studio?

DD is 12 and asking me if she can play Gacha Studio. Anyone know anything about it? Is it safe? Is it interactive? I'm not seeing an awful lot of detail when I google to find out about it.

Thanks for your help

It's dress up dolls, and without anything pervy in it. Well... if you can cope with the likes of Bratz dolls, there's nothing worse here.

Thank you. DD's very into chibi and anime and the like so it seems just up her street. I just wasn't sure whether it's a game where she'd interact with strangers and whether there's moderation etc? I feel hopelessly out of my depth with her phone and internet so just want to make sure I'm properly informed!

Ohhhh.... it does have online chat (I've not looked at it in two years). That's not good, but it does need DD to swap 'friend codes' and only those are able to chat to her. No moderation, it's peer-to-peer only as far as I can see. The primary purpose is to share your dressups with others.

Thanks, that's really helpful Smile

Tell you what though, outside this game - there's a bunch of youtube vids made using it as an animation engine, with references to distressingly grim 'edgy teen' shit like self-harm, drugs, coercive sex and the like. If you find her watching video, do check...

That leads onto similar worry about anime. I hope you have time to do the research into what she watches, because it's crazy easy to get suckered into some nice slice-of-life mild comedy that suddenly turns into murder or titty central. Or both.

There's some great anime out there, but due to general iffy/no official availability leading to a lot of fan translations the anime streaming sites aren't really very good at hiding away the more pornographic/otherwise unpleasant stuff.

Yes, DD has watched a few Gacha things on You Tube - generally pretty harmless stuff, but I've spoken with her about a couple of stories that I spotted and was concerned about. They were rather childish stories about someone committing suicide because her family were mean to her and then them all being sorry. Obviously not brilliant...!

She's always had and still has parental restrictions on You Tube and I regularly check the history so I have an idea of what she's been watching, but I do find it difficult with this stuff being around, especially as You Tube is her entertainment medium of choice... Sad

Not come across the subject matters you mention on anything she's been watching but will be extra vigilant. Thanks

Glad you're well up on the matter! I was a bit Confused when I went to check for update reviews and found grim stories made using screenshots from the game.

Youtube parentals are pretty solid, it's if she starts branching out to other less legit sites that she could bump into trouble.

Thanks. I find the whole thing really scary tbh. Had an issue previously where I thought I'd set parentals for all internet stuff on her phone and it turned out they weren't working. Currently the only internet she has on her phone is You Tube, though that can't be forever! I'm so crap with tech stuff and having made mistakes before when I was trying really hard to do everything right, I do worry Sad
