We use to love the wii - easy to play, all the family could get involved.

We want to buy a console for our girls for Xmas, 4 and 8.

Can anyone suggest a console which can provide similar simple features to the wii?

Wii u is good.

DS has the Nintendo Switch - it's good for solo play and for family games (1-2-Switch is really good fun).

Buy a second hand wii?

teacherspets · 15/09/2018 18:01

I didn't think wii u was still purchasable.

I think I see at least 2 used wiis a week with lots of games for sale for less than £40 on my local facebook. If it’s what your girls would like then get second hand

VimFuego101 · 15/09/2018 18:04

I'm sure you could still buy a used one at Computer Exchange or similar. If you did that then you could also get cheap used games. We have a switch too, which is great but games are very expensive.

teacherspets · 15/09/2018 18:11

What about a Nintendo switch? Does anyone have one?

Sorry just seen previous posts.

Re switch: can two people play at the same time?

@teacherspets - yes there a quite a few games where two can play.

BumDisease · 15/09/2018 18:19

If you want a Wii you can get them second hand for pennies just about anywhere.

We have a Nintendo switch. The kids play together on it. It's fab. The dance, boxing and mini games is brilliant. Plan on buying the splatoon and king king games for Christmas.

I have an original wii plus loads of games that I need rid of. Pm me if interested.

SneakyGremlins · 17/09/2018 11:21

CeX sell them for around £25 quid, good condition.

TheHobbitMum · 17/09/2018 11:23

We have 2 switches and they are fantastic, my youngest 2 love them and it's so easy to turn it into a family game with 4 players by using the TV. Have a look into the switch

sliceofcheese · 17/09/2018 12:12

Switch is fantastic but the games are insanely Expensive.

I'd check cex or similar for a second hand wii U for kids that age. The Games are much cheaper and still sold despite the console being out of production. You will be able to get many many games for it and several people can play at the same time.

BumDisease · 17/09/2018 13:53

^ I have a Wii U and love it but it has a fraction of the library the wii has and the game pad, which is essential to using it, is extortionate to repair/ replace should it be broken.

PetuliaBlavatsky · 17/09/2018 14:10

Bum you can play wii games on the wii u too, but you need wii controllers for it.
We bought a second hand wii u last year and have a local second hand games store so can get wii and wii u games really cheap. You can't beat Nintendo for family friendly games and consoles.
