Just almost shouted with joy in the high street as my (felt like) one millionth pidgey turned into a ditto. Now I can crack on with raids and catching a load of magikarp 😂

Dobby1sAFreeElf · 18/04/2018 12:42

soup Thank you for that. I thought my app was being really weird when it was doing that. Had assumed it was maybe as I'd caught the evolved form rather than evolved it, but it was beginning to show on some I'd definitely evolved.

Efferlunt · 18/04/2018 13:24

Argh! Three Latias raids and I can’t bloody catch it! I’ve managed a few great curveballs too. On the verge of giving up.

Efferlunt Giving up after only three?! Last year I did 15 Lugia Raids before I caught one! My catch rate for that one is still poor with only 16 caught out of 42.

UrgentScurryfunge · 18/04/2018 14:36

I've done at least 4 Latias raids and he will not stay in. I even got one of the L40 players to have a go for me yesterday and it still wouldn't cooperate. I never managed to catch Kyogre either.

Efferlunt · 18/04/2018 15:14

Oh okay that makes me feel loads better. I thought it was just me rather than everyone. Will keep slogging away!

CollyWombles · 18/04/2018 15:41

Could I have some IV help please? I use calcy IV app on Android to see IV stats. I had a 96% rattata and powered it up once then checked it's IV and it had dropped to 80%. I thought IV stats stayed the same regardless of power up or evolving? There wasn't a range of possible IV's the rattata was a straight up 96%.

Also, when you evolve a Pokémon, should you power it up as high as you can before evolving? Thank you!

soupforbrains · 18/04/2018 16:32

Hi Colly,

IVs do stay the same BUT apps like calcy IV and also Pokegenie give you a best guess at IV percentage. Because for one CP and Level combo there may be a variety of actual combinations of Attack, Defese and Stamin stats.

Based on that the overall percentage shown is usually the weighted average of the possible outcomes.

What happened in this instance is that for your rat there were a range of possible stats (probably one combo that was 80% then several possible combos between 94 and 98%) once you had powered it up the possible IV combos were reduced to it was able to give you a more accurate IV level.

usually you can narrow down the possibilities by inputting the appraisal info for the pokemon which might help you in future.

DoctorTwo · 18/04/2018 18:08

Finally got Ditto after 5 days of trying, and caught a wild Vileplume. I need to evolve to Gary, I can either have a 95% Blue Gary or a second Red Gary. Decisions decisions... :o

CollyWombles Yes, soupforbrains is right. Also are you putting in the appraisal too? As that makes it more accurate.

You should only power up after evolving.

However, do not waste your stardust powering up Pokémon like Rattatta! Stardust is such a precious resource that it shouldn’t be wasted like that.

You’re under level 20 as well aren’t you? So I wouldn’t be powering anything up for quite a long while yet as everything you catch and hatch will be too low to be worth it.

(I would also recommend PokeGenie as the app of choice for IV checking.)

CollyWombles · 18/04/2018 22:47

I'm level 17 and rattata was level 20, I only powered it up once for 2200 star dust so not much wasted. Thanks for the help, still learning!

Won my first gym battle today, against a dragonite and vapereon, it was one of my field research tasks.

Pikachuchu · 18/04/2018 22:49

I stopped using calcy IV after getting some odd (and clearly wrong) results from it. I use PokeGenie if I want a quick check while on the go, but I do most of my IV checking once back home with the calculator on PokeAssistant.com.

Powering up once is a way to narrow down the IV options. But a rattatta is useful only for evolving for XP, it's IVs are irrelevant and there's no point checking them really. (Unless like me you keep useless 100%s just because Smile)

It makes no difference if you power up before or after you evolve in terms of candy and stardust cost. People used to evolve first to see what move set you got before investing stardust. But since you can now change moves, it makes no odds either way.

WhatToDoAboutWailmerGoneRogue · 18/04/2018 22:54

I would always power up after evolving in case you get a better one and change your mind about which to evolve, then you’ve not lost anything by powering up.

Also if you don’t do a lot of raids then you won’t have many TMs so movesets will be more important.

Pikachuchu · 18/04/2018 23:12

If its a creature worth powering up, these days I do the whole caboodle in one go --> wait until I have enough candy to evolve and power up to level 30 in one hit. I wait for the right one before I do anything. (Powering up beyond level 30 I do in dribs and drabs, as and when, depending on lots of factors!)

bettytaghetti · 19/04/2018 07:24

Was that you Cottonwool? If so, many thanks! Grin Blisseywatch is no more!!

Dobby1sAFreeElf · 19/04/2018 10:03

After 5 days I've just made 9 raids. One more to go, hopefully today!

I bet the raid frequency will increase again after I've got my 10th too.

soupforbrains · 19/04/2018 10:08

Yay @bettytaghetti glad your Blissey has returned.... finally.

Dobby it's a tough old slog for those of you who hit that tasks post the 'fix' of the failing on the same raid thing. Glad you're nearly at your 10 though

bettytaghetti · 19/04/2018 10:42

39 days & 17 hours Soup! Have I set a mumsnet record?! Grin

soupforbrains · 19/04/2018 10:48

@bettytaghetti not quite! I had a Mon stuck in a gym in (very) rural lincolnshire for 3 months... I had so completely given up on his as lost that I was then really confused when he turned up home again ha!

bettytaghetti · 19/04/2018 10:53

Dammit! Thought I had a record there!

CollyWombles · 19/04/2018 11:27

Another question! Sorry!

When looking at a Pokémon, there are always two moves, which one is attack and which is defense? I'm assuming the top move is attack and below it is defense?!

PickAChew · 19/04/2018 12:47

One is the quick move and the other is the charge move. That charges b.up by both attacking and being attacked.

soupforbrains · 19/04/2018 13:06

Don't be sorry about not knowing things Colly we've all just had more time to ask and learn!

As PickAChew says the top move is your fast move and the bottom is the charge move.

both moves are used when attacking gyms, or raids and also when defending gyms, there is no difference between attacking or defending.

WhatToDoAboutWailmerGoneRogue · 19/04/2018 13:10

CollyWombles Yeah, PickAChew is right. They’re not attack and defense but fast (top) and charge (bottom).

When you press repeatedly you’re using your fast move, and you’ll see the bar powering up at the bottom. Once that’s full it will unleash the charge move which has more power.

Some Pokemon have a charge move with just one bar while others will have two or three.

You can’t really defend when battling, but you can dodge the Pokemon’s boss move when you see it coming in the bottom right corner of the screen by moving your finger quickly to the far right or left Smile However, I don’t bother so much with dodging as my Pokemon are powerful enough to take the hit.
