Minecraft realms

Dear All,

Sorry for all the questions, advice would be appreciated. Many thanks.

DS and DD play Minecraft v1.2.8 on our windows PC. They want to play together on a server. At the moment it is set up not to connect to anything.

They both have the cheap Kindle fire tablets.

I plan to buy them both Minecraft pocket edition for the tablets and then buy a subscription to realms on the windows pc edition and invite them both to join.

a) will this work?
b) will it mean that by doing this I will have to change the settings so that all three versions can connect to other stuff?
c) I will also have to put in my bank details for realms (I bought Minecraft initially with a voucher so I wouldn't have to do this). Will this mean that the kids can now make in game purchases?

Thank you again, and sorry for all the questions.

1.2.8 sounds an odd version - if you've any recent version you should be able to 'open to lan' and connect to that from a pocket edition - slightly fiddly if the Pc has firewall configured - but Google is your friend.

worth trying before realms though.

OK. Sounds possible. I will give it a go - and I didn't know about this at all, so thanks very much indeed.

I think if you do want them both on realms you'd need a login for each of them. (I don't have realms so don't quote me.) It's not that difficult to set up your own server though.

Apologies - just tried, PE will only connect to another PE - so you'd have to get PE on each tablet and have the first open to lan and get the second to connect - its all in the settings/edit menu

caveat is that depending on the performance of the tablets you may have to reduce depth, clouds etc to reduce lag on the first tablet

My two can play together on their "worlds." They aren't allowed on public servers yet. I get enough "he burned down/blew up my house!!" without them having to deal with others as well!!

OK. Thank you. Really helpful. Yes, I was planning PE for both tablets so will get this sorted as soon as possible so that I can make sure it works in time for Christmas. I may come back for more advice, but hopefully this will work. Thanks again

No idea about servers, but DS and his pals can play in each other's worlds on pocket edition when they're on the same WiFi.

Worked perfectly. Thank you so much. Slightly awkward moment on Christmas eve when the kids were playing on the home PC and "Steve" suddenly appeared in their world, twice. It freaked them out so much they deleted the world (look at my well internet trained children) but were very happy this morning when they realised what was going on. Thank you.
