Talk to me about a game to get DH into gaming & in time to share with DS currently 10

Just that really. Spurred by the amazing classic fm gaming music show last weekend I would love to utilise our Xbox (currently used for skylanders & minecraft) and get DH a brilliant game he will love. Thinking ahead that gaming could be something we could share and enjoy with DS as I know he will in time grow out of skylanders.

I bought assassins creed for £1 in cex but just stabbing in air really. I personally love Tekken - no plot, no long haul games. And DH plays an odd thing online on iPad to do with villages & campaigns & real time strategising with other people around the world Confused

So thinking intelligent fantasy. I would be drawn in to playing too if it had mini puzzle games within a game.

I don't understand games where you walk for a bit down a tunnel, shoot something, look in a chest & then have to look at a map & backtrack

I do think that gaming could be something that bonds us as a family and could lay the ground for DS teen years playing with us instead of in his bedroom (he's 10 at mo
So I'm forward planning)

for more background I love 80s arcade games & DS has also asked for Terreria (?) which I've put away for Christmas.

In real life we love playing magic the gathering as well as board games.

What would you lovely gaming MNetters recommend?

Witcher 3. It is of the genre of walk down the tunnel, shoot, chest, but it is just the absolute best of the genre, very absorbing indeed.

Just Cause 3 - hilarious action game which encourages addiction to blowing up anything that is coloured red. Very easy to play and get fun results like swooping out of the sky to tie a tank to an oil refinery and be out of there before they explode.

Thanks Yes - love the way you got my tunnel shoot chest genre 😀

I will take both those recommendations and give them a go. They will be in DH's (small) pressie come Christmas

Assassins Creed is very very pretty. Being stealthy is beyond me, so I don’t think I get the entire experience...

Maybe Forza Motorsport 7? Good for all ages and has split-screen two-player.

I was going to suggest Destiny but it's the very definition of walk in tunnel, open chest- well more like fly to titan, kill some aliens, open chest. If you got Assassins Creed for £1 I'm guessing it's the first game, if enjoyed there are many more and I'm told the most recent is amazing. I've only played Black Flag, the ship-based one, sailing around singing shanties is pretty fun.

If you have pc or it's an older xbox the Portal games are amazing puzzle games, very funny. And on pc No Man's Sky is a nice explorey game, sadly not on xbox just PC and PS4. Explore the galaxy, picking planets to visit, learn alien languages, do a bit of farming!

Watchdogs is hacking and running around, lots of fun, especially the second game. Infamous games give you superpowers, Cities Skylines is a city builder. Lots of genres worth looking at. Oh and I think Sims is on console now Grin

Make a twitch account and watch some streamers play various games.

Do you want a game they can play together now or are you trying to get DH hooked with something ion his own so that they can play together in the future?

Assuming now then presumably you want age appropriate?

If so then how about final fantasy 10. Its a 12 and its full submersion in another world. Its an old game but remastered.

Zelda?

Skyrim
The Elder Scrolls
Destiny

Great suggestions - in reply to question assumed age gap would mean had to get something to play together in future, presuming excitement comes hand in hand with age rating....

A little late to the thread, but I played Double Dragon neon all the way through with DD. We have played many games, but our time on that is most memorable.
