Yes, I know you have to have seen The Herbs in the early 70s to get the title, but meh.

Still no chuffing Mareep from a 2km egg, and a 10km hatched a fucking Sudowoodo. Harumph.

Hello! Can I join? I’m a massive novice in comparison to everyone here but have been getting into the game recently again! I downloaded it when it initially came out but forgot about it after the initial excitement died down and I’ve only just started again!

How do you know which Pokémon are good to level up? I just assumed it was the ones with highest CP but others here are talking about percentage? What’s that?

DamnDeDoubtanceIsSpartacus · 27/11/2017 17:50

Has the bird gone? I am so disappointing Sad

I have an almost permanent red band of doom when i play now even when gps is fine on my phone. I am so gutted as it's becoming unplayable.

SomewhatIdiosyncratic · 27/11/2017 18:47

I had GPS issues earlier, just after I set off some incense. I did my usual route and it wasn't updating my location at all.

I went to a few different parks today and a revisit of my usual. Picked up a few more Farfetch'd and some Exeggcutes and Doduo from nests.

NamasteNiki · 27/11/2017 18:50

I was 750,000 xp through level 36 at the start of the event and now up to 1,400,000 through it. Loving this event.

jennielou75 · 27/11/2017 18:53

Literally just caught a far fetched

WunWun · 27/11/2017 19:09

Babydreaming - the percentages are Individual Values (IVs). You can use a calculator online to work them out or there are apps. I use IV GO. Do the offline version if you use an app though, I was told off and threatened with account closure by Niantic for letting an IV calculator app use my pokemon login Blush

Hello @Babydreamer, welcome to the thread.

I had the red band of doom a lot a few weeks ago but it seems to have got a bit better. Although there’s a lot of lag.

GPS drift was terrible this afternoon. Managed to finish off my 5k eggs just sitting on a bench. Sadly more shellders though.

EekBarbaraitsaDalek · 27/11/2017 22:54

I’m really enjoying this event. I’ve managed three lucky eggs and levelled up to 37. I haven’t been able to get out and catch as many Farfetch’d as I’d like but I did find an 87% one earlier which I was very happy with. @Babydreaming I use Poke Genie to check IVs. You take a screenshot of the Pokemon and the app tells you the IV. It’s really easy.

PickAChew · 27/11/2017 22:55

I've had a lot of GPS drift, this weekend. I think my trainer might just have been pissed off at not being walked enough last week, with DS1 off school, but she ran 1km on Saturday, from the comfort of this armchair!

EekBarbaraitsaDalek · 27/11/2017 23:18

They’ve just announced Ho-Oh in raids! mobile.twitter.com/pokemongoapp/status/935282391341400064

SomewhatIdiosyncratic · 27/11/2017 23:34

My GPS wasn't budging at one point this morning. Sigh.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 28/11/2017 01:40

Welcome, Babydreamer!

Stardust is a very hard to get and build up, so you want to make sure you're powering up the right Pokemon. Since defence isn't really a high priority with the new gym system, you want to focus on attack pokemon.

Pokemon Go offers a basic appraisal, and you want to only really be powering up the wonder/amazes/best of (phrase is team dependant) Pokemon, as they have the best IVs. Caught attention/strong will do if you can't get a top appraisal.

High CP is a factor, but if it's high CP with shit IVs it's a complete waste of stardust to power up.

To accurately check IVs, I suggest an app like PokeGenie. You take a screenshot, put it in the app, add the appraisal and it gives you a percentage.

Do not check IVs by using any method that requires your log in information, as that can get you banned from the game as it is against Pokemon Go's TOS. Hence my recommendation for PokeGenie.

Core Pokemon you want to focus your attentions on are Gyarados, Tyrannitar, Golem, Rhydon, Machamp, Dragonite and Ampharos.

You want to make sure you're evolving the very best of their first form, so the highest CP and IV combination you can get.

If a Pokemon has a third evolution, it is always better to wait until you can fully evolve to its final form, because by the time you have enough candy, you'll probably have a better one than the one you rushed to evolve to second form.

For example, Ampharos is the best electric in the game behind Zapdos. A lot of people rush to evolve to Flaafy as soon as they have the candies, but because Ampharos is so good, you want to wait until you have the best possible Mareep to get the best possible Ampharos.

I hope this helps Smile Please feel free to ask any questions, I'm happy to answer them!

Babydreaming · 28/11/2017 06:15

Thank you whattodo!! That was really helpful advise otherwise I would have spent the whole time powering up those with highest CPs! So my highest IV one is sandshrew who is 97.8% but only 680CP...I guess I need to walk him to earn more candies and then try and power up?

DoctorTwo · 28/11/2017 06:29

A Ho-Oh raid has just started in my town. I need tea, a shower and a shave so I'm not going to this one. I don't have to leave for work until 9am so might try to fit one in before then.

For anyone going raiding...

PokemonGo 13: I'm Bayleef, I'm the gardener, I walk from early dawn (to earn candy to evolve to Meganium)
WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 28/11/2017 08:44

Babydreaming You're welcome Smile But no, I wouldn't power up Sandshrew - it's not worth it as you're never going to battle with it.

You only want to be powering up Pokemon you'll battle with Smile

Also, don't power up Pokemon who aren't in their final form, because their moves change every time they evolve, so if they're high CP, high IV but awful moves and you don't have any TMs, you don't want to power up until you know you can change the moves.

Babydreaming · 28/11/2017 09:29

SO confusing! So my next highest ones are as follows:

Pineco
IV 97.8 CP592

Tangela
IV 95.6 CP1258

Charmeleon
IV 95.6 CP842

Misdreavious
IV 93.3 CP 1183

Are any of these worth powering up? I don’t understand how you know which ones to battle with? I have a Rhydon (the only one I have from your list of good ones!) with high CP but lower IV - is it worth powering him up instead?

WunWun · 28/11/2017 09:42
Hmm
WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 28/11/2017 13:50

Babydreaming You won't battle with Tangela or Pineco, so they're not worth powering up, and Misdreavus evolves into Mismagius in Gen IV so you don't want to power it up until Gen IV is released.

Charmeleon turns into Charizard, which is a really good fire Pokemon, so it is worth powering it up as you'll battle it against grass Pokemon.

Also because Rhydon is so good, you want it to have high IVs, so at least 85%, but anything higher is better. So I wouldn't evolve a Rhyhorn into a Rhydon until you have a high IV one.

The same applies to evolving as powering up: don't evolve the rarer Pokemon unless you have a high IV/high CP one, as otherwise it's a waste of candies.

When picking Pokemon to battle it does get very complex, as you need to take into account the moves it gets, the CP, the IV, its type and what it's good against etc.

Since you're not sure what to battle with, I would focus on getting the best of the following Pokemon:

• Gyarados (Water/Flying type, good against Fire, Steel, Water, Bug, Fighting and Ground)

• Tyrannitar (Dark/Rock type, good against Flying, Fire, Normal, Poison, Dark, Ghost and Psychic)

• Golem (Ground/Rock type, good against Flying, Fire, Normal, Poison, Electric and Rock)

• Rhydon (Ground/Rock type, good against Electric, Poison, Rock, Flying, Fire and Normal)

• Machamp (Fighting type, good against Bug, Dark and Rock. Very useful for taking down Blissey and Snorlax)

• Dragonite (Dragon/Flying type, good against Fire, Grass, Water, Bug, Fighting and Ground)

• Ampharos (Electric type, good against Electric, Flying and Steel)

Those are the really the only ones you want to focus on powering up. There are others worth powering up (Vaporeon, Eggexcutor, Blissey, Snorlax etc.) but those listed above are the main ones. If you have other Pokemon outside of those I would ask/check/google before powering up.

Hope this isn't too confusing! Smile

Got on my first raid!

jaimelannistersgoldenhand · 28/11/2017 14:58

Me too. I'm v happy to have him.

DamnDeDoubtanceIsSpartacus · 28/11/2017 17:53

Managed to get a farfetched, so chuffed. Rushed out last night in my pj's with dd and bagged one each. Still red bar of dooming and my avatar barely moves. Such a shame as I love this game. Hopefully the next update will fix it.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 28/11/2017 19:57

DamnDeDoubtanceIsSpartacus An update has just been released which said it fixed that, so hopefully that helps Smile

DoctorTwo · 28/11/2017 20:10

Nice catch Damn, new additions to the 'Dex are always welcome.

I had an hour long wait in an Ocado warehouse loading area waiting to get on a bay and got 1.9km in GPS drift and hatched another female Nidoran.
