Hi all,

Been lurking on these threads for a couple of weeks as I've not long started playing PoGo. Just had a question about evolutions/CP.

I'm level 19 at the moment and have read your helpful info about IVs. I really want to start doing some evolutions (well, chiefly Eevee) and the one I have has decent IVs but low CP. Using a calculator, it would cap out ~1030ish at the moment. Am I right in thinking it'll grow with me and I'll be able to keep powering it up? I don't want to get over excited and start evolving lots of 'Mon only to find that in a few weeks when I've levelled that they're useless!

A good IV Eevee is always worth an evolve. However, if the CP is really low (a 1000ish cap suggests it must be relatively low at the moment), then to get it to a decent level, you'll have to invest a lot of stardust and candies into levelling it up! Was it a wild capture, or did you hatch it from an egg?

As your level increases, so will the CP of Pokemon you find in the wild. Of course you'll still get the odd low CP Pokemon, but the chance of them having a decent CP is higher. This caps out at Level 30 I think!

Evolutions are fun, especially Eevee if you leave them completely to chance, and it will of course add another to your Pokedex if you haven't already caught a Jolteon/Vaporeon/Flareon in the wild. Just depends how much you want to invest in getting this one high enough to be able to use in gyms, raids etc

Haven't posted for a while, as haven't been playing much recently - just keeping up my daily streaks mostly and trying to get 50 coins a day. I'm a solo player so not doing raids (and have no wish to). Am a bit miffed about the spoofers on gyms still. Yesterday I left a Pokemon in a gym in the middle of nowhere. Yet it came home last night around 1am. There's no way anyone would be there in the middle of the night so am a bit miffed.

CaeciliusIstInAtrium Welcome! Eevee's are so common that you really don't want to putting candy and stardust into any evolutions that aren't going to be worth it.

So although it may have good IVs, with low CP, it would take too much dust and candy to power up.

I would suggest not powering it up and waiting for a better one to come along (which they will do, as Eevee's are thankfully not rare!).

As you're a relatively new player, I would definitely recommend saving up stardust and candy in general anyway.

A lot of new players don't realise how rare stardust is and make the mistake of using it freely; it should only be used on your best fighters or defenders (Dragonite, Blissey, Snorlax, Gyarados, Tyrannitar etc). Don't get me wrong, this can definitely include Vaporeon, Jolteon and Flareon, but I would suggest only high CP, good IV ones

Thanks What and Cotton, good advice! I shall be patient then! Bit cross with myself now as I'd spent a bit of stardust levelling a Sudowoodo who is rubbish... Chalk it up to experience I suppose.

Hatched a Miltank the other day, now I've gotten used to her waving her udders in my direction I've become quite taken with her

CaeciliusIstInAtrium Yeah, you don't really fight with Sudowoodo's. I did once in a pinch during a legendary raid, but that's it. I'd definitely never put stardust into any, even a high IV/high CP one.

Congrats on the Miltank! They're very rare; I know lots of high level players who still haven't got one. I love mine too, but again, I don't fight with her so no need to power her up.

I'd say 1am rural gym trips are pretty standard for us so it might not be spoofers. We often go to bed late and if we do gyms after midnight then the Pokémon often stay in there until the morning so I wake up to my 50 coins.

The roads are clear and we can park more easily....

Got an egg on 4.5 out of 10km- really hoping for a Snorlax, I've wanted one since I first started playing but still don't have one! a good Lapras would also be appreciated a good second place

I've done quite a few middle of he night Poké-drives too (DH and I driving slowly past stops and fighting gyms) so 1am might not be a spoofer. Unless your mon is somewhere that closes at night I'd say any time day or night is fair game

Yes, we have a ton of midnight players too (mainly yellows!).

Oh mummysparkle do tell, what was in your egg? I sometimes send my kids out to run laps around the house if I'm that close to hatching an egg, especially a 10k egg. I am excitedly waiting, love egg hatching so much I'm not bothered if it belongs to someone else lol

It hasn't hatched yet! I put stuff on FB selling site and then dealt with an influx of messages and forgot to re-open pogo. Might attach phone to dog and throw the ball around for a bit

I'm suspicious about late night changes in the deep, dark unlit woods near me. It could be someone intrepid with a head torch, but given how rarely I saw anyone in my dozy area while running C25k after 10pm, I'd be rather surprised!

Although last winter there was a cluster of us just inside the entrance of the woods when a random wild Snorlax spawned!

I have just had Rhydon that was trapped in a very remote gym returned to me after 57 days. He could have at least waited another 15 minutes and bought some coins with him 🤔

The gold badge isn't going to do me any good though as it's halfway up a mountain trail on the other side of the world 😂 I left my rhydon there like some sort of reverse holiday souvenir

I know lots of people play after midnight. But this gym was nowhere near a road. It was on a coastal footpath, miles out of town near the edge of a cliff! No way would you go up there in the middle of the night. I took the gym around sunset after the same blissey had been in it for over 48 hrs on it's own, so obviously not a gym with much traffic.

MummySparkle ooh congrats! Quite a rare hatching I've only ever had one! Don't be tempted to evolve it into Pupitar when you have 25 candies- wait until you've got the full 125 and go all the way from Larvitar to Tyrannitar. Then you can choose your best one to evolve, in case you hatch a better one at a later stage!

If there's anything this thread has taught me, it's to wait before evolving
