I've got one or two of each of the legendaries. I hope it will be enough to get mewtwo raid pass but I don't think it will be

You need to have been to a raid recently at the gym Mewtwo is taking place at, so if you want a chance at Mewtwo, you want to do a lot of raids (not just Legendaries but all raids) around the 31st August as it's expected that Mewtwo will arrive after that.

I don't think this week or before will count as recently unfortunately.

DoctorTwo · 24/08/2017 07:34

Have you had a look to see if there's a Fb group or asked anyone about a WhatsApp group for your area?

I'm only on Facebook aa couple of times a week and don't want it on my phone. My phone is new (did I mention that? :o ) so I haven't installed Whatsapp yet.

PokemonGo I wouldn't be anywhere near the level I am, or have as many Pokemon in the dex without scanners! I started using them as my level increased to help with 'min I needed for evolutions. I mostly use them to check before I go to a park etc if it's a good spawner Smile

My favourite park has switched over to an Exeggcute spawn, which I'm really pleased with- I have one Exeggutor, but his moveset is rubbish. Aiming for another by the end of the day, hopefully with Solar Beam Grin

PokemonGo · 24/08/2017 08:55

Cottonwood

Im nearly level 39 Blush Grin

I would have continued not to use 'help' but the game has changed with the introduction of the legendaries. I got the first couple by not using extra help by once I'd stumbled into those raids everyone was using their scanners to discuss where to go next and were to go next so it seemed pointless to try and maintain my purist gameplay ..... so I stopped. It's only a game so I can't say I agonised over it too long. 😂. I always thought scanners would make the game less fun for me and I think they would have. I've not evolved a Ttts as I'm hoping to get a good one in a raid but I'm happy I've otherwise completed my dex on my own apart from regionals. (I've got Taurus from a trip)

I used to be mildly salty that I was having to fight gyms full of Pokémon that I was guessing were either from spoofers or from scanners but despite my level I really don't take the game too seriously -

I'm still not using automatic IV checkers and I wouldn't give my details for someone to catch a regional but other than that ....GAME ON Wink

PokemonGo · 24/08/2017 09:09

Ugh sorry for typos and crappy English

LBOCS2 · 24/08/2017 10:07

I've completed Gen1 without using scanners mainly because they didn't cover my area but have started doing so recently to pick up the Gen2 I'm missing. I'm hopeful that when DD1 goes to school I'll have a bit more time for raids and gym battling and be able to pick up a few more. There's a really active discord group around here and I've made it to maybe three of the battles so far.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 24/08/2017 10:16

I'm pretty sure not a single person in our entire group of 50+ uses scanners.

What are they, how do they work? I've gathered discord is something to do with it but I don't know what that is.

LBOCS2 · 24/08/2017 10:22

Discord is mainly a chat group for gamers - ours is an offshoot of the FB groups so that discussion on which raids to hit doesn't clog up FB. Lots of different feeds, relating to different areas. It's a bit like WhatsApp but you don't need to link it to your telephone number.

Scanners are things like the LondonPoGo map or pokehuntr - they show you what is in your local area. I'd be really surprised if not one person in your group use them.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 24/08/2017 10:24

Right, so scanners and discord are separate?

Pokehuntr has been mentioned in the group but it was unanimously decided it was useless Grin And we don't live in a big enough area to have our own map.

We're in constant communication via WhatsApp so if people were using discord or anything like that, they'd mention it.

LBOCS2 · 24/08/2017 10:32

Pokehuntr is useless, I completely agree - but they've just changed the boundaries of the London map to cover where I live and that's brilliant. We also have the updated list of nests which goes on the FB group.

I don't really know enough about Discord to know what it can do. We've got it set up so there are nine or ten chat groups for specific areas (quite small areas) - so if an interesting raid pops up you can do a shout out to local people and see if anyone's around for it. Or let people know about rare spawns. There's also a general area FB group but that often degenerates into chit chat so shoutouts for raid help gets lost.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 24/08/2017 10:37

I'm a long way from London Grin

So that'll be why nobody uses discord then; because we don't need it. We have the WhatsApp group to inform each other of raids and when we'll meet as well as general chit chat.

wartortle · 24/08/2017 11:06

Where I am we have a FB messenger group for raids, and any rare spawns tend to get posted there.

There was a scanner for where I live but it got caught in the last banhammer wave and pokehunter is a bit crap! I think scanners are okay, you still have to physically go and get the pokemon and it's not really that much different to someone posting on the FB group that there's a rare pokemon somewhere.

I wouldn't use anything I had to log into with my pokemon account though!

SomewhatIdiosyncratic · 24/08/2017 12:09

The pogo plus is brilliant. It's good for phone battery conservation too as my screen uses more power than the Bluetooth. It's a pain when it randomly disconnects and stops talking to the phone, but recently I seem to have got the hang of resetting it and reconnecting it (turn Bluetooth off, delete from phone settings screen, turn Bluetooth on, press and hold button for about 10secs, release, press again for 5 secs, light press, when its white, it should show a shadow on the settings screen and be able to reconnect). It took months to find decent instructions!

PokemonGo · 24/08/2017 12:16

What
Lol, how can you be so knowledgeable about Pokémon and not know about scanners 😂

I guess you must live in quite an urban area with a lot of raids going on.

I suppose if there are 50 active players then you would notify each other if there was an interesting Pokémon? Or do you literally do as I did up until a few days ago and only ever catch things by stumbling upon them?

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 24/08/2017 12:27

PokemonGo I knew about PokeHuntr and GymHuntr; just never heard them as being referred to as "scanners" before.

I live in a small town but we have lots of gyms and lots of raids all the time, and yes, our WhatsApp group is very active so we let each other know about rare Pokemon.

cottonwool125 · 24/08/2017 13:44

I think I'm the only person on here who thinks Pokehuntr is really good Grin

eyebrowsonfleek · 24/08/2017 13:56

The button to search for Pokémon on Pokehuntr says "Scan This Location' hence scanner.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 24/08/2017 14:00

The button to search for Pokémon on Pokehuntr says "Scan This Location' hence scanner.

Yes, I know that, I just hadn't put it all together in my head Grin

MummySparkle · 24/08/2017 20:56

I tried gymhuntr today - it was crap! I haven't tried poke hunter, but as we're out in the middle of nowhere that's probably crap too.

How did you all get dragonite? I've just been walking my dragonite and realised it's 5k per candy... I need to walk 330km to get one!! So dragonite or Charizard? Should I walk for charizard but use the rare candies for dragonite? I'm never going to get them Sad

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 24/08/2017 22:22

MummySparkle I love GymHuntr! I think it's brilliant.

I've seen a fair few dratinis around and hatched some too; eventually got my Dragonite.

If it's Dragonite or Charizard, absolutely Dragonite. Every time. Dragonite is one of my best fighters; I use it all the time. In comparison, I think I've only used Charizard once.

You can use your rare candies on what you want, but personally, I only use them on Legendaries, especially now they're even rarer as we get less out of raids.

PikachuHeadgear · 24/08/2017 22:47

Look what I've just seen outside my house!

eyebrowsonfleek · 24/08/2017 23:41

MummySparkle - Dragonite was a raid boss at the Mewtwo event in Japan. I think we'll get a chance to catch it in future. I'd go for Charizard now. Do you love be in a place where it's easy to find a Raid group?

BSJohnson · 24/08/2017 23:53

That looks painful. Grin
