Disney infinity help!

I've recently been given an xbox 360 so I've picked up a few games etc for dc's Christmas. I got Disney infinity star wars starter pack but I don't really understand what it is! What are the packs of figures only for? Are they games themselves?

I saw an inside out playset, but what's the difference between a playset and individual figures??

It's complicated. There are 3 versions of infinity. 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0. Each version has different play sets that go with it. Each play set has a variety of corresponding character figures. It is my understanding that you cannot play for instance a 2.0 play set on a 1.0 disk. You also cannot play different characters on play sets that do not correspond with it - e.g - you can't play an avengers character within a Star Wars game. HOWEVER, there is a different part of infinity called the 'toy box' which my ds loves. You basically can use any character to dick about doing different challenges ad- infinitum and you can currently access online content which I believe is being discontinued in 2017. I hope that clarifies somewhat.

The play set also unlocks content within the game. The starter set comes with the disc for the game and then the other figures/play sets are used to play other parts in the game

The current version is 3.0 so you can use figures from the previous versions with it. You can't use 3.0 characters on the earlier versions though (1.0 and 2.0)

The figures appear in the game - they are the characters that you play with. Did you get a starter set with a portal (flat thing with three spaces)?

As PP said, version 3.0 figures will only work with game version 3.0, the first figures (1.0) will work with everything.

Yes a 3.0 starter pack with white thing with spaces. So should I buy the inside out playset or just the individual figures? Thanks for your help, I'm still confused but slightly less so!

Buy whatever you want really as the play set and figures will work with it

I don't know if you know but Disney Infinity has been cancelled so there won't be any more new sets made. Sets and characters will become scare as Disney sell through their inventory. I'd advise getting any characters you know your DC will want as soon as possible.

No I didn't know it had been cancelled, thanks for letting me know.. I'll get what I need asap. All seems so complicated...last time I played games the ps1 was brand new!
