Have just finished this game on GBA now...after having it for over a decade Blush

Anyone else a fan of the old Zelda games?

OP posts:

Yeah, when you put it that way Peach is a bit useless really; quite like Cat Peach though. (they're all good in cat form in Super Mario 3D World) Smile

Talking of Muppets, I used to really enjoy playing Muppet Racing years ago on the original Playstation console, but when I dug it out again to play a few months ago it's not quite as good as I remember it; it's no Super Mario Kart that's for sure. Sad

BadLad · 16/10/2015 02:54

Peach had her own game in Super Princess Peach.

Ashvis · 16/10/2015 08:04

I always wanted to play Muppets racing but never have. That's the reason I don't play Jet Set Willy or the Dizzy games, just in case they're not as much fun as I remember. I think Mario Kart set the bar pretty high. If we are playing just for fun, the only important thing is to beat Peach.

I usually buy most Mario games themed games but couldn't bring myself to buy Super Princess Peach, was it any good? Does anyone remember that scene in Spaced where Simon Pegg makes Lara Croft drown over and over again - I'd end up doing that. I'll concede that cat Peach was less odious than Peach usually is. Slightly. But I agree, the cat suit is awesome. The tanooki suit was my favourite though. Or the penguin one. So many good power ups.

Anyone buying Tri Force Heroes? Can't quite make up my mind. Grumpy it's either solo or online with 2 friends, why not one? Might be something else to play till Zelda Wii U gets released on the NX.

BadLad · 16/10/2015 12:49

It wasn't very good. They introduced her different emotions as a new gameplay mechanic, but it didn't really work. Without the characters it would have been completely forgotten about by now.

I will be getting the new Zelda game. It's brilliant to be able to play so many of them on the 3DS.

Ashvis · 16/10/2015 17:10

Emotions? Really? Oh, Nintendo, what were you thinking? Apparently they've sent out the specs for the new console to game developers now so that's pretty cool.

Dh somehow got sent download codes for a demo version of Tri force heroes so going to try that!

Just been looking at Monopoly editions, and found a Nintendo Monopoly and a Game of Thrones Monopoly (both now wish listed on Amazon!). Several Doctor Who monopoly versions too but, delighted to see a Back To The Future Monopoly- especially as this Wednesday is the date in the future McFly travels to Grin

BadLad · 17/10/2015 02:49

Here is an exert from a review of the gamegame:

But Peach's greatest powers are her emotions. Along with her heart-based health meter, Peach has a vibe meter, which you can draw from with one of the four heart icons present on the lower screen. The icons correspond to four different moods--joy, rage, gloom, and calm. Joy will cause Peach to float through the air in a rather happy cyclone. Rage causes her to become engulfed in flames and makes her really heavy. Gloom causes huge gouts of tears to pour from Peach's eyes, and it also gives her the ability to run really fast. Lastly, calm restores lost health.

Save for calm, which is useful only when you're low on hearts, the vibe powers are vital for getting through each level and solving some simple environmental puzzles. Joy can obviously make it possible to fly up to hard-to-reach platforms, while you can use rage to burn through wooden bridges to reach otherwise inaccessible areas, and gloom can be used to put out fires, make plants grow, or traipse across delicate platforms that would otherwise break away under your feet.

Ashvis · 17/10/2015 22:55

God, reading that review just made me feel sad. Wonder if anyone working on it thought it was any good?

So, I spoke to my friend - dh was wrong, it's Scooby Doo Monopoly, not Muppets he has! They have Snack Shacks and Dine and Dash Diners in different shapes, looks pretty cool. My lovely mate looked up the Muppets one for me though, and it's movie sets and studios, but they use the same houses and hotels. I think mini trash cans would have been brilliant. If I buy Muppet Monopoly at any point I plan on buying a heap of dolls house bins and using them! Oh, now, dolls house sprouts and trees? That could be doable...

Racundra · 17/10/2015 23:03

If you're looking for crossover board games, theres a Star Wars Carcassonne being released imminently, UK/Europe only though.

MadeMan · 19/10/2015 19:47

"That's the reason I don't play Jet Set Willy or the Dizzy games, just in case they're not as much fun as I remember."

I still play Skooldaze and Trashman on a ZX Spectrum emulator from time to time and they are still as much fun now as they were when I was 8 years old; two of the best games ever made. Smile Trashman has the most lethal road IN HISTORY and it still has me bricking it when trying to cross the street.

Obviously the graphics and sound have aged, but the gameplay on some of those old games is still there.

Ashvis · 21/10/2015 07:06

Love a Star Wars themed board game! We bought our tickets for Episode VII the other day, dh is beside himself with glee.

You're dead right, the gameplay is amazing on some older games (and the original theme of this thread, eh, op! Grin). Want to try Trashman now. Can't believe the NES was released 30 years ago, I still enjoy playing Super Mario Brothers, and wish I'd a copy of Duck Hunt. It's a few years since I played Paperboy on an emulator but it was still great. Occasionally we have a retro gaming night where newest consoles aren't allowed on, might be time for one again.

MadeMan · 24/10/2015 00:53

Duck Hunt is available to buy on the Nintendo store these days, which I think surprised a few people considering the content of that game in this day and age; shooting ducks dead and having your dog collect them! Grin

Yeah, Paperboy's a good game; I used to like BMX track bit at the end and obviously throwing newspapers through people's windows.

Speaking of retro gaming, I bought an old Intellivision console a while ago mainly to play that I remember from my youth; it's still a playable game today as well.

BadLad · 24/10/2015 10:51

3DS or Wii U store for Duck Hunt?

MadeMan · 24/10/2015 16:49

Wii U is where I saw Duck Hunt under the NES classics I think for about 2.49.

Well, they've confirmed Zelda WiiU is coming out next year but no specific date - and in March, Twilight Princess HD will be released on the WiiU. That was a nice surprise!

And might have to look for Duck Hunt. I may be veggie but the shooting was fun and the dog is very cute :)

MadeMan · 13/11/2015 15:27

Duck Hunt was one of the best light gun games available anywhere on any system. Smile

I haven't played it on WiiU, but it could be good with the Wiimote thingy.

I'm looking forward to Xenoblade Chronicles X as well; also Starfox U.

GeekLove · 14/11/2015 19:55

Peach is actually rather good in Super Mario RPG and in Super Paper Mario, where she is fully playable.

palerfire · 14/11/2015 23:18

I've been playing Zelda since the NES era. They are superlative examples of gameplay. Difficult to find anything else that comes close, but if you want to try a more grown up, extremely difficult version of Zelda, the Dark Souls games are amazing and highly compulsive (just as well seeing as you will die many, many times).

BadLad · 17/12/2015 13:57

Did nobody get Tri Force Heroes on 3DS then? I didn't, because I don't play 3DS games with other people, and this seems geared towards multi-player.

Ashvis · 17/12/2015 14:25

I do want to get it, but the multi player aspect is putting me off - did you get it? Is it good? I do love a zelda game so still tempted.

BadLad · 17/12/2015 14:35

Nope. It sounds like a great game if you have friends with 3DS consoles, which I don't. So it looks like the next one for me will be if the next handheld has a version of Wind Waker.

Ashvis · 18/12/2015 12:02

My dh has a 3ds, but we'd struggle to find a third. I don't like playing online with random people either. I did wonder if the single player option was good. Worried it might be fiddly. I'm delighted today though, "ds" bought me a Zelda Windwaker Outset Island playset for Christmas, and it arrived today! I want him to have every opportunity to appreciate Zelda games, and he does love small toys to play with. I'm hopeful I can turn him into a fan. Then he get his own 3ds and play triforce heroes when he gets a bit older. It's a very long term plan.
