Have just finished this game on GBA now...after having it for over a decade Blush

Anyone else a fan of the old Zelda games?

Goemon also had fantastic music, as did most of the SNES Squarest games (Mana, FF etc)

munkisocks · 26/08/2015 07:00

Love zelda! Never played n64 versions but have the majoras mask, ocarina of time, wind waker, twilight princess and skyward sword mixed between GameCube, wii and wii u. Can't wait for new one to come out.

IndomitabIe · 30/08/2015 17:36

Hello again.

So DH is grappling with the wii - the GameCube disc is going in, it's making the usual disc-reading whirring sounds but only showing up as "Please insert a disc". Got the GC memory card & controller in. I've no idea if this is a 'newer' model or not.

I suppose since we'll be playing with the GC controllers we may as well use the GC. Are there any benefits to using the wii?

IndomitabIe · 30/08/2015 18:02

DH has checked the wii is GC compatible.

MadeMan · 30/08/2015 18:52

The early Wii's are GameCube compatible, however I think the revised later ones like the sky blue coloured Sonic and Mario Olympics version and the Wii slim aren't GameCube compatible.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wii#Backward_compatibility

MadeMan · 30/08/2015 18:54

Oops. Not Wii slim, it's called the Wii Mini apparently.

Ashvis · 01/09/2015 10:18

There's no real benefit to playing Windwaker on the Wii as far as I could tell - as long as you can still use your GameCube you're fine. It was really just Nintendo trying to be good with backwards compatibility (take note Sony!), making it convenient for Nintendo fans so they only needed one console hooked up, not two. Shame they didn't extend it to the Wii Mini!

GladysTheGolem · 01/09/2015 10:20

DH couldn't let me call DD Zelda.
So I bought a n64 and am replaying Ocarina instead.

Ashvis · 01/09/2015 15:07

I loved that Robin Williams named his daughter Zelda because of the the games! I'm glad we had a son or dh and I would have had lengthy conversations about using Zelda for a middle name Grin

MadeMan · 01/09/2015 21:43

Williams' daughter looks more like Saria to me somehow, rather than Zelda. Smile

IndomitabIe · 01/09/2015 22:33

What we need to do is get a Zelda game for Wii so we can have DS doing manic chopping.

We've got: windwaker, ocarina, majora's mask and twilight princess on GC. What's more recent but still on old wii (pre-2011).

Ashvis · 01/09/2015 23:04

God, you're right, she is more like Saria! I never saw that before but you're dead on the money MadeMan! Might have to get a pet so I can name it Saria or Zelda Smile.

Skyward Sword is on the Wii. It's pretty good but the controls annoyed the hell out of me (I've arthritis though, and I can't always swing my arms about as easily or as quickly as I'd like). Pretty sure you need a motion plus controller. Looks beautiful though, and you get to fly a big bird about which is great fun. Definitely worth a look. Sure you can get a good deal on it now too.

BadLad · 28/09/2015 12:55

New 3DS Zelda game coming very soon.

Harvey000 · 28/09/2015 16:15

10 years! That's dedication!

minionwithdms · 11/10/2015 22:34

Apologies for completely disappearing, my life randomly got very busy. Sad On the plus side, I managed to squeeze in enough spare time to finish Link Between Worlds. And it was brilliant! So if anyone's still keeping an eye on this this thread, thank you so much for the recommendation!

OP posts:
Ashvis · 12/10/2015 07:34

I'm really pleased you enjoyed it! I'm still working on Oracle of Ages but, like you, life got busy and it's nowhere near finished yet (not least because I've been playing Yoshi's Wooly World and replaying some Witcher 3 in prep for the new dlc coming out tomorrow! Tomorrow!). My lovely dh bought me Zelda monopoly for my birthday - we've played it a few times, usually with the Zelda music CD on in the background. Best. Present. Ever. Grin

minionwithdms · 12/10/2015 18:41

Zelda monopoly? Oh wow, I have to get this!

OP posts:
Ashvis · 12/10/2015 22:25

He says he got it from Amazon. We played it this weekend past with some family who are equally geeky and it was just fab. We've Indiana Jones monopoly too, but the Zelda one rocks the most, and not just because there are no pictures of Shia LaBeouf on it. Annoyingly though, there are pictures on all the transport cards except Epona. And while the houses are meant to be sprouts and trees, they've just used the houses and hotels from the original game (in the Indy game there's idols and arcs of the covenants, it's awesome). What the hell?! I'm going to find an Epona sticker soon, and use Lego flowers and trees instead of the houses and hotels. I've a friend with Muppets monopoly though, and that sounds great too.

MadeMan · 13/10/2015 22:26

Lego trees and flowers would probably be less painful when stepped on bare footed than those red plastic hotels. Smile

MadeMan · 13/10/2015 22:29

Laughing now at the idea of Link and Saria living in a semi-detached with Epona in the driveway.

At least they could have made the houses look like log huts or something, surely?

Ashvis · 14/10/2015 07:19

Hahaha, that would be good! Potion shop and bomb shop at the end of the street! Who is good at drawing then? Yeah, Link lived in a treehouse, I'm going to borrow some of ds' mini Lego treehouses next time we play.

It's a fantastic version on Monopoly - empty bottles and treasure chests instead of chance cards and community chests, but it says on your property cards about buying deku scrubs and trees, they really should have produced something other than green houses and red hotels. Lazy sloppiness. Fortunately a bit of imagination can remedy that. Don't think I'd mind so much if they hadn't produced different bits for the Indiana Jones monopoly, but if they could be more creative for that, why not Zelda as well, eh? We always make the treasure chest opening noise when turning over a treasure chest card - da da da daaaaaaa! Playing regular monopoly would just be dull now. Wonder if we could play it again tonight...

minionwithdms · 14/10/2015 20:19

Sounds fun Smile think I'll add it to my Christmas list! My friend has an amazingly cool custom Zelda chess set - love different versions of classic games.

And ohmigod, I hate those little plastic houses. They're classified as a deadly weapon in my house, must have stepped on hundreds of them in the dark.

OP posts:
Ashvis · 15/10/2015 08:31

I desperately want a Zelda chess set now too, if only I'd someone to play with. I've friends with a Super Mario Brothers chess set but they don't live locally. If I had that though, I suspect Princess Peach may get accidentally maliciously defaced. I remember my dad getting a glass set like the one in X-Men and loving playing that with him. 3 might be a bit young for teaching ds how to play chess...

I love a twist on a classic game too! We've Star Wars Game of Life and Doctor Who Risk as well - geeky board games are great. Think I'll be googling more board games for dh's Christmas, or dropping massive hints for ones I would like.

MadeMan · 15/10/2015 16:52

"I suspect Princess Peach may get accidentally maliciously defaced."

Why do females (apart from maybe the under 5's) all seem to hate Princess Peach? It's something that seems to be fairly prevalent. Grin

Also, in the Muppet's Monopoly are the houses all Oscar the Grouch's dustbins? Smile

Ashvis · 15/10/2015 17:49

Peach makes our whole gender look bad. If she at least tried not to get kidnapped once in a while that might make a difference. Learn some self defence, hire some bodyguards, strengthen the borders to the kingdom, anything! And she seems to just string Mario along. It's unfair. Let the poor man know where he stands. Stop flirting with him Peach, let him find someone who appreciates the moustache. FWIW, dh and dbil hate her too. Useless princess. In Captain Toad Treasure Tracker I liked that Toad saved Toadette (is that right?) and then she saved him. Much better!

Grouch's dustbin, that would be very cool. I'm going to speak to my muppet monopoly owning friend in a couple days, shall ask him then. I'm really hoping it's something cool. I'm going to watch the Muppets on Monday night but have my old DVDs of the original series ready for when it disappoints.
