Good games for a ps3, for a 12 year old who's going to be cross when I say no to GTA5?

He's just turning 12, wants GTA and COD, but I don't think he's ready for these yet. Can anyone recommend anything that will keep him happy (and keep me relatively worry-free).

He's moved on from Minecraft but probably still prefers that kind of game to Mario where you're moving sideways all the time.

I know nothing about which games are trendy or challenging. Can anyone help? Thanks.

Will be watching to see what others say. Ds already has fifa15 but is convinced he's getting GTA. He's not.

DS1 (11) would recommend Crysis 3, Uncharted and Skyrim, all of which turn out to be Age Rated 15/16 feels like bad parent

theknackster, do you think they're ok? There's such a big difference between 12 and 16/18 games and I'm prepared to be a bit lenient. I'm ok with a bit of swearing & spurting blood, especially if there's a bit of thinking involved or it's good vs evil, rather than complete mindless violence.

Uncharted looks OK I think...a lot of it is climbing and exploring plus puzzles, broken up with some shooting. Skyrim is all fantasy, dragons and elves and the like, but mostly fighting with swords and bows. Not sure about Crysis 3 - seems more like a 'call of duty' type game, but presumably can't be as bad with the lower age range?

Just remembered he's also played 'Borderlands 2' (normally an 18) online with a friend, with the 'gore setting' turned to 'off', which removed all the death effects and the bad language. He loved that - it's quite funny, and the graphics are more cartoony.

The Batman Arkham games are rated 15 but I would say for most 12 year olds would be fine to play and are really good games. Its not all beating people up and there are some logical parts where you really have to think to be able to progress or find all of Riddlers hidden items etc.

O and the Star Wars Force Unleashed games would be good as well, first one is a 12 rating as well.

Motorstorm series if he is into any driving games!

I'm sorry but Skyrim really isn't suitable for a 12 yr old imho - there are really very adult themes in there such as cult worship, stealing and vandalising/sabotaging people's property, contract killing of innocent people, etc etc. There is one particular activity where you get in a coffin with a mummy . And yes I have played Skyrim.

I love the Uncharted series, but again, don't think they are for a 12 yr old - adult themes there as well - you shoot lots and lots and lots of bad guys, it really is shooting fest, so if you don't want your son playing COD for that reason, then I would give Uncharted a miss until he is a bit older. Yes I have played the whole Uncharted series.

I've only played a little bit of Crysis 3, but it seems to be a typical shooter, just with lots of technology added as a differing point from COD - otherwise it is in a similar vein to COD.

Please don't allow your 12 yr son to play the 15/16 yr old rated games - they really aren't rated as suitable for that age as a reason.

Every one of the listed games is suitable for a 12yr old. You only have to do a google for 'games suitable for a "12 year old"' with 12 year old in "...." to find something. I found those games from a couple of threads in other forums. HTH
