Help! Multiple Game Center IDs ...

MrsMcGregor · 24/06/2014 16:12

Posted this on chat but no replies so am trying here for more traffic. Will try to keep brief.

DS and I both have iPads. Both play Hay Day. We use the same Apple ID and the same Game Center account. One day, I am told, there will be a disaster and one of us will inadvertently delete the other's game. I think we will both weep if that happens.

DS has lots of games linked to GC, I only have two.

The obvious thing is to set me up a new GC ID but when I google and look on the Apple support threads it seems that, in order for the new ID to continue to use my Apple account for billing etc, then it needs to be set up for DS. I think that putting his DOB in identifies him as a minor and allows it to use my email and apple ID.

I'm guessing that if I do it this way he will lose access to his games under the current game center ID. That won't work.

I have considered setting me up with his DOB but I want full access to GC and my apple account so that won't work either.

Has anyone successfully done this?

Thanks

Sorry for epic post

You are correct, you need a different apple account.

I use ITunes cards for my accounts rather than linked to a credit card.

What I HAVE done:

When I wanted to download music onto both IPad and IPhone is change the apple ID on the IPad to the ID I used to buy the music on the IPhone.

It let me do it the one time, gave me some sort of warning about not being able to change again for however many days.

(Changing devices linked to ICloud, you apparently need to wait 90 days)

Now, this is the odd part - I have identical passwords to my two accounts.

But I never log in through Apple ID anymore. I logged out of Apple ID, and now just change my log in through Game Centre when I want to switch games. When I go into the Apple ID it shows me the different Apple ID (email address) BUT - the amount I have on my account is identical, no matter which ID I'm logged into!!!! Now I KNOW the amounts are different.

Looking at the music and videos under settings - they stay linked to the email account which I downloaded music from, regardless of which account Game Centre is logged into.

So I SUSPECT that the device stays linked to the ID which I want it to even though the email address at first appearance is different.

I don't actually download all that much though, and haven't bought a paid for App for ages.

Oh flip HDQ, thank you for more help on this. It sounds so complicated! So I need a new Apple account but then I am confused as to how to switch one of the games to the new account? I'm sure it's simple but my brain is befuddled and I cannot get my head around it.

You open the game on that device under your old GC ID, like you normally do. Then get out of your apple and GC accounts, and go into your new apple and GC accounts.

Open up the game again. As that GC account has never been associated with Hay Day before you will probably not get any messages.

Once it is linked to the new GC account it stays linked, and all will be fine.

BUT.... you might have to wait 90 days for an apple ID to link to the IPad (according to ITunes Store info). I don't know about that. I merrily switch IDs from one device to another all the time!!

HDQ - I was having a look on the HD Help pages and found this.

According to it, I should be able to go onto DS' device, log him out of GC, create a new account for him and then if he opens his existing Supercell games (HD and Clash of Clans) they should link to his new GC account and open as he left them.

What do you think? Do you think all his other games such as Flappy Birds will open okay?

He is willing to try but not willing to risk a game!

Thanks!

Everything on his IPad will link up automatically to his new GC account. If you want him to have some money, rather than linking the new apple account to a credit card, just link it to an ITunes card.

In fact, when I switch user IDs on my IPhone and IPad, all the other games just stay put - Hay Day is the only game which is on both devices. The other games give us no problems at all, and just happily link to whatever ID is currently on there. NO games have been lost or levels affected - and we have a LOT!!!

HD, thank you! You really do know GC. We will try it this evening when lo's are in bed.

Thanks
