She has just been given an iPad. Lucky girl. I want something sweet and fun. No shot em ups! Has anyone got any ideas. It's for my niece (actually in truth more for her parents benefit than hers) who will be coming on a long airplane ride to visit us this summer.

the ipad is great for kids on airplanes!

Mine is 7 years old, but she likes games where you raise animals, like pocketfrogs and bugvillage.

Thanks Walter, I'll check those out. Her mother is a 21st luddite and so I have been delegated the job of sourcing suitable material Wink Fun though.

I meant 21st CENTURY... I am sure there are more than 21 luddites.

I just posted this same thing to another thread, but it answers your question as well:

my daughter is hooked on Paperdolly lately on the ipad. It's like a dress-up game, but with very hip clothes. It's free, and you can buy more sets of clothes if you want more than the basic set. Hope this helps you.

We have to take our kids on long plane rides occasionally - agree with Walter that iPads are brilliant for this. Just to saythat we add any new apps/ games/ tv shows just before the journey - in case they get bored of them even before take off!

Just be careful of those in app purchases.

My 7yo likes bubble mania, gobstopppers, word games - word searches and mixed up letters you make words out of.
Her favourite right now is Angela the cat, but also likes paper dolls, strawberry shortcake dress up, drawing / colouring apps and angry birds.

It looks like she uses the ipad a lot, but i really do limit her screen time.

I rarely pay for apps. And she doesn't have the password so can't buy anything.

My DD loves whale trail and could spend hours on it and my DS loves Angry Birds. During term time these are taken off the iPad and they only have educational apps. DD likes maths bingo but there are lots of others. Worth getting some earphones (iPads don't come with them) as sitting next to someone playing Angry Birds or similar for a long flight could drive you crazy. We put movies on for holidays too but don't leave them on all the time as they take up a lot of memory.

What is the world coming to? 6 year olds with iPads? Jesus, the first kind of technology I had was a second hand gameboy advance when I was 9. Get her one of them instead. They have better games for a start and they don't cost £500 (extortionate for a 6 year old). I still play my game boy btw and I'm 15 :) sign of a good product
