When my son is old enough for his first console (I think at around 2 years thats when I started) I'm going to give him a imported handheld device full of Snes and Mega Drive games, let him learn to appreciate gaming in it's purest form, no son of mine is going to grow up a hype machine swallowing graphics whore, it's all about the gameplay.

The fact you have no understanding of what I'm talking about, makes me proud, gamer for life!, I will stand tall and fight the losing battle against the tide of casual gaming, (it's all just a fad it will all soon pass).

Grin do you blame Wii Fit etc for casual gaming then? If you live anywhere near Yorkshire, the National Media Museum in Bradford has a ground floor lounge that is a bit of a shrine to classic gaming, old Mario and Sonic games set up to play on.

you bastard

Hassled · 02/11/2010 10:18

You can't do that Shock. That's like forcing a child to only read "classics" - they need exposure to the shite to be able to appreciate the quality.

Alex The Kid on the Master System. That was the Best Game Ever. I was obsessed with that game.

I do indeed it's ruining the industry, just look at it with Move and Kinect as well soiling the other systems, such titles are cheap trash to make even if they bomb they make money.

ruining the industry I love and work within it is, the balance must be re-addressed before it's too late.

hopefully next year will see a change with the release of the 3DS, expected announcement of the next Nintendo system and the failure of Move and Kinect putting the others off (bet you 20 quid they crash and burn, especially Move).

Yeah thats great, I wish he hadn't listed the names of the titles I would have wanted to guess em, all hail the SID chip, the imagination in the compositions puts the modern movie score rip offs to shame.

Bring back imagination and originality in gaming, there simply isn't enough of it now days.

This was my MN substitute, and that's why my oldest DCs are so well-balanced Hmm.
ZinglebertBembledank · 02/11/2010 10:33

We've kept all our old consoles, will look forward to showing our future kids to play them.

Ryoko · 19/11/2010 11:23

If you mean proper old then good, if we are talking Playstation onwards I doubt they would still work, they don't make em like they used to, too many moving parts, saying that tho one of my Atari Jaguars is dead as a door nail and if you have a working Game Gear you should covet the thing because they are the definition of a dying breed and you can't get the part anymore, it's all ways the same part.

Kaloki · 19/11/2010 12:29

Pre PS Ryoko, though saying that my PS2 is still working just fine. We've got drawers full of old megadrive games - think we've got more megadrive games than PS3 or PC games!

CarmenSanDiego · 19/11/2010 12:31

Hah, I tried to get my girls playing text adventures.

They got bored after about 10 minutes :(

Ryoko · 20/11/2010 09:36

Put em on Sonic and bomberman everyone loves bomberman, especially number 4 on the snes, number 7 on the Saturn is meant to be the best tho.

My PS2 still works as well (touch wood) and it's been played like hell, it's about 8 years old I still got a spare slim one just in case after they got rid of the backwards compatibility of ps3, I got a working slim PS1 as well hardly used in a box, but during the hay day of PS1 I got thru 7 of the things granted 5 of them where second hand but thats still pretty bad IMO.

I've got 3 360's, they all work, I got one with a broken DVD drive off a mate and got it fixed (but it can't go online now it would get banned), then mine red ringed and I wasn't going to wait to see if it could get fixed, cos the guy who does it was on holiday so I got an Elite, so I now have 3 working ones.
