Saw these 'steaks' for sale in Sainsburys yesterday - I didn't buy as they were so pricy, over £8. Anyone tried them? Are they worth it for an occasional Sunday dinner?

I've heard really good things! And see them in the odd Instagram video where they look great. But not tried them yet 😊

Disclaimer: I've never eaten actual steak, but they are good!

I’m vegan and bought for my non vegan bf to try. He was very impressed (I’ve never had steak so couldn’t compare). He said it wasn’t exactly the same but pretty close!
the blood-like look really turned my stomach though. They looked authentic when raw and when cooked. Follow the cooking instructions carefully x

We like them and get them when on offer. They are a bit “corned beefy” though.

They are nice but I found the flavour just a bit too much, and a little bit too salty. It was as of they had overdone the umami to appeal to steak eaters. I don't eat steak but I do eat meat, and if I were to get them again I would, but would slice them on half through the circumference. I bought them when they were on offer as otherwise they are quite expensive.

Yes, I dont understand why vegan/vegetarians are going mad for things that look and by all accounts taste so meaty.

Lots of vegans enjoyed and miss meat but have made the decision to give it up for environmental reasons or animal welfare concerns. Not all vegans (probably a minority in fact) are repulsed by meat, far from it.

Because they want to eat something similar to what they used to enjoy, without a living creature having to die?

I buy them regularly but not to eat as steaks. This is my favourite recipe for them. I tweak it a bit obviously as it doesn't need so long to cook.

I buy the "meaty" ones that are supposed to taste like pork and make lots of dishes but this is my favourite https://greatcurryrecipes.net/2021/12/12/sri-lankan-black-pork-curry/

Sri Lankan Black Pork Curry | One Pot Curry | The Curry Guy

Black meat curries are hugely popular in Sri Lanka. This Sri Lankan black pork curry is one of the best! Give this a try today.

I'm a vegetarian as I disliked the thought of sinews or fat or "bits" in meals I was eating. People have all different reasons for not eating meat.

I don't think they're anything like steak (from what I can remember!) but they are tasty. I like to pull them apart and make a sort of birria taco. Also nice through a rich tomato pasta.
