So said DH last night and refused to take the leftovers of the meal I'd made for lunch into work today. Said I was ridiculous, knew nothing about cooking and "it hasn't seen the earth". I assume this is because tomatoes grow above ground? Is this some form of extra-veganism I should know about or has he totally lost the plot?

I made this Pasta and had served it to the DC with other stuff for lunch. For evening meal we had salad and spinach falafels so I put some of those aside for him to have with it and offered to add some steamed carrots from the weekend. Before he decided to go vegan, cherry tomato and carrot pasta was a meal he sometimes cooked.

I am so lost right now. Is that not an edible meal? The DC were perfectly happy with it.

For the hard of thinking at the back: to rephrase, my family eat what they like, as do I. Yeesh. You're just annoyed that I'm not an unreasonable twat 😂

There nothing wrong with it - it only has pasta and tomatoes but that's not the end of the world for a lunch. I usually eat more vegetables and out in beans or something but that's more for the evening meal.
Get him to cook

GoingDownLikeBHS · 05/03/2024 14:16

Initially I thought this might be something to do with the Jain faith, where they don't eat root vegetables, but then the "hasn't touched the earth" thing would make no sense. Also Jains do eat milk and milk products.

Anyway, that was my thinking, that he's subscribed to an unusual form of veganism. Did you not actually ask him WTAF he was on about?!

Tell him tomatoes don't have eyes. And that he can cook for himself in future.

Erm why are you all being vegan?

If your husband wants to be, fair enough but there's no requirement for you all to be.

I'm vegetarian but DH and the kids have meat - because they like it and their diet is their choice.

but the op says she and dc ate it with left over meat

fruity81 · 05/03/2024 15:22

this isn’t a happy marriage is it op?

Lassiata · 05/03/2024 15:23

This has nothing to do with veganism.

Lassiata · 05/03/2024 15:24

@idiotsguide no-one is allowed to eat meat in my house, you can FFS your Fing face about it if you like.

MrsTerryPratchett · 05/03/2024 15:26

He will often take our lunch for the following day which means I have to cook vegan when he's not here so he has something the following day.

You don't. Why do you think you do? Because he's controlling, right? And obsessive.

T0AD · 05/03/2024 18:12

We regularly have that meal. It's a great recipe book

Soubriquet · 05/03/2024 18:16

Well since you “know nothing about cooking” then you have absolutely no problem is not cooking for him. He can cook his own damn meals whilst you and your dc enjoy your cooking

thenightsky · 05/03/2024 18:18

Throw his portion onto the lawn. It'll have seen the bloody earth then.
