Vegan chocolate

Is there any such thing as vegan milk chocolate? I bought vegan white chocolate once which I had to order in specially to Holland and Barratt but I assumed it would be easier to make milk chocolate dairy free than white chocolate. I can't really find anything in a google search except for a kilogram of drops for making confectionary which costs about £50!

I have just discovered a brand called Choc Affair. They had it at the garden centre with all the other fancy and overpriced foods.

I bought some for Christmas including salted caramel and milk chocolate. I think there were six or seven flavours in the range.

Moo free do a nice range of dairy free vegan chocolate , I think Tesco sometimes stock it
it tastes pretty ok

Doesabear · 10/09/2022 17:33

Aldi's is ok. Their dark one is better though.

Om bar mylk shop.ombar.com/products/ombar-coco-mylk-vegan-chocolate-70g-case-of-10 made with coconut sugar too

There’s loads I’m very surprised you can’t find any online. Hipp is really good, oat milk based with nice flavours. And even Cadbury does vegan dairy milk but it’s very sweet, wouldn’t recommend

MbatataOwl · 10/09/2022 17:43

Galaxy and Cadbury now have a vegan rage. Nomo makes the nicest vegan chocolate IMO though.

I second this - I'm not vegan, I just got a free sample and it was lovely!

Iamclearlyamug · 10/09/2022 17:47

I was given a Lindt one as a freebie a couple of weeks ago. I'm not vegan but it was actually really nice and I couldn't tell the difference 🤷‍♀️

Carpy88999 · 10/09/2022 17:51

There's tons. Avoid a brand called Moo Free.

Nomo
Buttermilk
Galaxy have a dairy free which is good
Cadbury plant bar is OK
Aldi have 3 bars
Wicked in tesco have 2 great bars

The best one in my opinion is a brand called HiP

bigbluebus · 10/09/2022 18:56

I accidentally bought one in Tesco's a couple of months ago. I think it was Wicked brand. I won't be making that mistake again. But then I'm only comparing it to dairy made chocolate.

Suzi888 · 10/09/2022 18:58

I get the Cadbury or Lindt range but want to try choc affair.

I can’t tell the difference 🤷🏼‍♀️

Hotel Chocolat do really nice vegan chocolate! Aldi actually do nice "milk" chocolate vegan bar as well. I agree though with poster upthread, avoid moo free, it's nasty!

Fairislefandango · 10/09/2022 19:17

There's loads of vegan chocolate. Even some of the supermarkets sell own brand stuff (e.g. Asda). None of it really tastes properly like milk chocolate imo, but it's ok.

I didn't know Lindt did one though- must try that!

DinosaurOfFire · 10/09/2022 20:46

It will depend who it's for, for my answer. Is it for an allergy or 'just' someone who is vegan? Moo Free is excellent for allergies as its free from a lot of allergens, NoMo is also quite tasty. Booja Booja truffles are delicious for a gift for an adult vegan. White vegan chocolate tends to be quite nasty! Lindt do one, as do Milky Way Magic Stars now- they do one with Popping candy and one without, in the freefrom section in Sainsburys and Tesco. I have found that supermarket branded freefrom chocolate doesn't go down as well as the brands I have mentioned- firm favourites with my kids are: NoMo, MooFree, and Magic Stars Dairy Free.

Whyarewehardofthinking · 10/09/2022 20:50

Hotel Chocolat. They make bars (and hot chocolate) with nut milk. DD, and the rest of the family who don't need it, love it.

Lots of great suggestions here, I wonder why I couldn't find anything, maybe just using the wrong search terms. Thanks all! Xx
