Does a Vegan Nut-Free Pesto Exist?

Hi all,

Just wondering if any supermarkets in the UK stock a vegan nut free (including pine nuts) pesto? Or if anyone could link me to some easy recipes.

Ideally shop bought if possible though.

Thank you 😀

I make my own pesto by putting a bag of spinach, rocket and watercress salad in a food processor with plenty of olive oil, salt, pepper, garlic granules, nutritional yeast flakes, I also add walnuts if I've got them, but it tastes good without as well. It doesn't taste the same as commercially made pesto, but I think it tastes really good and it's more nutritious.

Thank you @NannyR
I am going on a trip with an acquaintance who is allergic to all nuts plus pine nuts so that is very helpful!

Following with interest for DD with allergies There was a delicious French brand we bought for years on Ocado but it's no longer available. There's this one with chickpeas but I've not come across it in supermarkets:

I've made it with sunflower seeds for my son who has nut allergies (but obvs you'd need to check whether the person you are making it for can eat seeds ) . It is also perfectly possible (and tasty) to leave out the seeds altogether. Cheaper bought versions often have potato in their ingredients rather than the more expensive nuts so I bet a small amount of plain boiled potato would help emulsify the ingredients in the same way as the nuts do. The nurse don't really bring much to the flavour (well not compared with the garlic and basil flavours!!) - it's more of a texture /richness thing.

Thank you @Notbluepeter
I'll definitely try this myself another time but this one has pine nuts in so won't be suitable on this occasion 🙂

I'd just make it yourself OP. Basil, olive oil, vegan parmesan, garlic if you want - blended. Add cannellini beans too if you want it to have more texture. It doesn't have to have nuts 🤷🏻‍♀️
