Best butter alternative?

Wondered which vegan "butter" would taste best on toast?

And which is best for cooking things like cakes? (May or may not be the same product).

Keen to hear from anyone who's tried a few.

Thanks.

For toast, I’d say Flora 100% natural dairy free spread www.sainsburys.co.uk/gol-ui/product/buttery-taste-sunflower-spreads/flora-original-spread-500g It does contain palm oil but Flora says it’s 100% sustainable. For baking, it’s got to be Flora Plant Better blocks (you can get salted and unsalted).

That's great, thanks. I'll give them a go.

MY DD is vegan and she prefers Vitalite. I always use it in cooking/baking when she's at home too.

We were using Flora Buttery for a while until they decided to put the buttermilk back in, but I'm cynical and think it was just so they could bring out another purely plant based option! We've not tried that one yet.

Flora plant butter - it's amazing

Softpebbles · 26/10/2021 19:23

Naturali for on toast is really nice!

Jijithecat · 26/10/2021 19:24

Trex is good for pastry. I like Vitalite for sandwiches.

Santastuckincustoms · 26/10/2021 19:25

Naturali hands down. You can get the spreadable one in Sainsbury's

Treacletoots · 26/10/2021 19:28

Naturali here as well. DH is a major butter fan, and could eat it on its own. He recently said he actually preferred this to butter. Win!

coronabeer · 26/10/2021 19:45

Hmm... now I'm tempted by naturali.

Naturali - even I like it (and I am very fussy!).

For baking, stork in a tin foil packet is vegan, as are the supermarket own brand equivalents usually called baking block. Both work well, and are a lot cheaper than butter - DD has outgrown her dairy allergy and I still use them in baking as we can't taste the difference.

We liked the Pure spread as you can get an olive oil version and we like the flavour. Tesco's own brand olive spread is also dairy free now.

AuntMasha · 26/10/2021 19:59

Pure — the sunflower one. Won’t use anything else.

@coronabeer

Flora plant butter is amazing but it uses palm oil
Violife butter is just as nice but has No palm oil so it's the winner for me

Kintsugi16 · 01/11/2021 04:44

@AugustRose

Flora are reverting back and removing the buttermilk from Buttery

PurpleDaisies · 01/11/2021 05:21

Naturli is the east winner for toast. I often use vitalite for baking.

AugustRose · 01/11/2021 13:33

@Kintsugi16 Thanks for that, I'll keep a watch for it.

ribbonola · 07/11/2021 22:35

Sainsburys plant pioneers butter alternative. It's like Naturli in taste and ingredients but comes in a bigger tub!!
