Vegan school shoes

I need to get 8yo DS some new school shoes and I'm sick of cheapo non leather ones lasting only a few weeks.

I tried M&S vegan ones and they didn't last much longer.

Sad to say the only shoes he's had that lasted were leather ones bought by my mum (even though I asked her not to buy leather) that I let him wear rather than waste them once purchased.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Well plastic shoes don't last and they stink, and they're dreadful for landfill.

Plastic shoes don't last and are bad for the environment. Quote from an article about 'vegan leather' in the Independent:

"Plastic polymers polyurethane (PU) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) are the most commonly used to produce faux leather fabrics thanks to their supple, vinyl and sometimes wrinkled texture. But both pose serious environmental threats given that they are usually manufactured from fossil fuels and are not biodegradable. Equally, these garments tend to have a short lifespan, meaning consumers may dispose of their faux leather items faster than a long-lasting hand-me-down, resulting in them being sent to landfill."

Ok thanks for the environmental lecture that doesn't answer the question.Hmm

So much better to have leather shoes and let an animal die then?

Dr Martens?

Shoes are made of leather because they are the best economical material for the job.

If you want non leather you need to compromise on price or quality.

Have you looked at happy little sole website. They usually have vegan options.

Looking after the planet saves animals as well as humans. Look, if you're a vegan or vegetarian it's obviously quite understandable that you are against leather shoes, but plastic shoes are just not going to be durable like leather. Startrite have a good reputation and they say their vegan shoes are durable - here

There might be something suitable here and the ethics of the store are great too.
