Veggie Jelly Babies?
18

JorisBonson · 03/09/2021 20:31

Not strictly vegan but thought I'd get the best response here...

A friend is doing a very, very long charity walk on Sunday and I'm going to see her at a halfway stop point. Whenever I've gone to see friends do marathons etc I've always taken them jelly babies but this friend is vegetarian so that's obviously out of the question. Are there any other sugary, energy boosting, veggie friendly sweets anyone can recommend?

Check M&S. They are good for veggie sweets. I don’t think you can get and veggie jelly babies but as said above Percy Pigs are really good (all are veggie.)

I think M&S too.
Rowntrees fruit pastilles are vegan I believe.

Is she vegetarian or vegan? AFAIK vegetarians can eat them, just vegans who can't.

Definitely Marks and Spencer’s. Waitrose fruit pastilles in bags are veggie, as are their sour pastilles but their jelly babies aren’t.

Jelly Bellies! They are vegan and delicious. They also do a sports version (less nice) with electrolytes.

She's just veggie Smile

Good shout on fruit pastilles!

There's a m&s and a Sainsbury's right by where we're meeting here so I'll have a look about.

Most veggies will only eat gelatine free sweets.
M and s are fab.
Candy kittens are vegan too and in most big supermarkets.
Aldi do fake vegan candy kittens and fake Percy pigs, I think they're dogs or something like that.
Jelly tots are also vegan.

Check the Fruit Pastilles wrapper as some places are still selling old stock. Vegan friendly is all over the new packaging, even I couldn’t miss it 😁

No. Jelly babies are made from gelatine which is boiled up cow or pig bones. Not vegetarian.

Some great suggestions already. Some Haribo sweets are vegetarian too; look out for the green V on the front of the bag. The Aldi candy kitten knock-offs are better than the originals. Snakes are good too, as are the kids' veggie sweet selections. If you want something closer to jelly babies, lots of places do jelly meerkats which are vegetarian, and Fruitella make fab vegan koalas, which I'm finding tragically elusive round my way.
