Dairy withdrawal

Is this a thing? I've been a vegetarian for a couple of years and quit dairy 6 days ago. The last couple of days I've feel like I did when I quit smoking!! I cam feel it in my teeth - sounds weird but I hope it makes sense - like I'm craving a hit.

Has anyone else experienced this? I have no desire to eat dairy (not since watching Dominion).

I’m not vegan but I’ve been dairy free for over 18 months and I didn’t experience this.

I’ve never felt this. Are you getting enough calcium?

theneverendinglaundry · 23/03/2021 06:53

Thanks. Maybe it is all in my head, maybe I've been stressed. I will check that I'm getting calcium and everything that i need though - that's a good point!

This is genuinely a thing. Dairy proteins work on the same brain receptors as narcotics. If you were eating a lot of cheese, it's a bit like having a low level opiate addiction. I hope you're feeling better now!

@welshmaenad thanks, yes it stuck around for a few days but its gone now. I did read about cheese being physically addictive, its just mad isnt it

I felt hungry for a few weeks when moving from vegetarian to vegan, but it didn't last.
