Leftover Maggots

Fredastaireschair · 14/03/2021 09:45

My Father is an angler..he has just told me he has lots of leftover maggots.. And asked if I'd like them as I have several bird tables. I'm unsure. I do love to feed the struggling birds, but ...they're alive. If I leave them for him to chuck out, they'll probably die anyway? Wwyd

Do you expect the birds in your garden to be vegan because you are?

ErrolTheDragon · 14/03/2021 09:49

Give them to the birds, better than have them die in his rubbish bin. That may be a few less worms eaten by blackbirds and robins.

newmumwithquestions · 14/03/2021 09:51

Feed them. They haven’t been bought for that reason and will go to waste otherwise

Fredastaireschair · 14/03/2021 10:10

Okay Smile thanks

No. More wasn't sure me feeding an animal to an animal was something I would or should be happy with.

What else do you expect birds and animals to eat? Lots of animals are carnivores.

Northernsoullover · 14/03/2021 10:17

I have no idea how you will persuade a lion to eat a nut roast.

Branleuse · 14/03/2021 10:20

id suggest that he deals with them himself, putting them out for the birds etc, then its not your issue.
Interested though, if you have issue with maggots etc and their right to life, how would you deal with things like headlice or fleas in the house?
Im not fully vegan yet btw, id never considered how far this could go in that respect

I don't expect them to eat or not eat anything. I don't usually feed them living things though.

I draw the line at parasites. I think most vegans do.

Veganism, It's as far as is possible (It's impossible to never harm an animal as we harm them by just being alive).

😂😂

Ah so you're a level 5 vegan?!(Google it)

Me and my DP agree that pest control should be acceptable but we don't agree about what that looks like.

justanotherneighinparadise · 21/03/2021 17:14

Pmsl. I can clearly remember going to a spiritual retreat in my twenties and a rather highly strug vegan crying over the ants that people were sweeping off of their dinner tables before they put their food on there for lunch.

My face was a picture 🤭

AppleJane · 21/03/2021 17:16

That's my DPs argument! I'm a vegan not a Buddhist!

I'd not kill an ant, but I'd not want them crawling on my food I ate one by mistake once Grin

Sometimes I think the food we eat is the easy part of being vegan!

Take a wormery. Do the worms care you are using their poo as long as you care for their needs?! My dogs never complain about me picking up their poo 😂

FredAstairesChair · 22/03/2021 13:07

AppleJane I'd LOVE a wormery!

Me too!

I've also got some old hens from before being vegan and I can't decide whether rescuing hens would fit in to being vegan. It's complicated!
