Vegan christmas Dinner
16

jess3817 · 05/11/2019 18:52

Thinking about what to have this year.
Previously we've had a nut roast, the bosh! Mushroom Wellington, and puff pastry pie filled with stuffing, cranberry sauce, roasted parsnips and sausage meat ( shroomdogs)

Wanting something different this year, as well be at home christmas day, but at my parents for boxing day for my step dads birthday and my mum does a Christmas dinner then too - don't really want to roasts in a row😂
Does anyone have anything alternative they have? Like curry or Chinese?

Ooh really? I've read mixed reactions about that one. How did you cook it?

Don't have a curry!
You can have that any time of year.

It isn't Xmas without roasted potatoes, parsnips, carrots, brussel sprouts and something main.

What about giant mushrooms? They'll roast really well with the other roasted veg, mix a bit of olive oil with crushed garlic and spread over the top.

We had that for Easter.

Tofurky is vile. Utterly disgusting.

I always have the Artisan Grains country style nut roast. I eat half and the rest is stuffing for the meat eaters. It's delicious.

Yes to giant mushrooms. Lovely with a bit of fresh sage and garlic, then roasted.

Or if you want something that isn't a roast, how about a lovely Middle Easternish spread - spinach pie, a tagine, loads of dips etc.

Tofurky roast seems to be a complete Marmite product!

I was looking at reviews yesterday and they were totally polarised.

I want to try it before risking having it on Christmas day.

Kofte curry (using cashews instead of milk or cream) is usually a hit in my house before Christmas. I serve it up with naan and jeera rice and will make a vegetarian version with eggs too.

Does anyone have suggestions that don’t involve pastry or being part of a pie and are good for just two people?

Tofurky products are incredibly salty. Not good.
We like brussel sprout mac and cheese, easily make vegan with almond milk and a cheeze replacement. You put a little mustard and nutmeg in the white sauce, crumb or even once I used left over crisps as a topping.
