Help me like tofu!

I know as a newish vegan I should be including it into my diet but I've tried it several times and I don't like it. What can I do at home to make it tasty and edible?

So I finally cooked some! It was delicious actually. I pressed it and then marinated it in soy sauce, sesame oil, garlic granules, onion granules, sweet chilli sauce, smoked paprika and salt n pepper. Then fried it until it was crispy on the outside.

Help me like tofu!

Fry it... try it at Asian restaurants it's lush

Does pressing it get rid of the eyeball popping texture when you bite into it?

I've only had it once, cooked by a chef, and it was enough to put me off for life, but as I have several veggie friends, one of whom I cook for on a regular basis I'd quite like to give it another go.

Well I bought firm tofu and then pressed it for 10 mins so all the extra water came out and then it was able to soak up the marinade. Then I fried it until it was crispy. It was still softish in the middle but not wibbly wobbly soft.

That looks great @cushioncovers

Question I'm new to this also why is tofu a must? Will be missing out nutritionally if I don't?

cushioncovers · 12/04/2019 07:52

I'm pretty sure it's low in fat and it's high in complete protein. It's also fairly cheap and versatile. But mostly the protein thing.

Weird I was just going to post about protein powders probably still will. Will need to get over my aversion of tofu if this is the case as I'm running a bit low on the protein front.

NearlyVegan · 12/04/2019 15:27

I'm no where near my fat macros on any day 🤷🏻‍♀️ not sure wether to be worried by this either

I dip slices of the smoked firm stuff in a mixer of chilli sauce, soy, olive oil and honey and roast them until crispy, for using in stir fries or in a sort of duck pancake kind of thing, or in baguette with salad for a kind of banh mi type thing. Lovely.

Hoppinggreen · 13/04/2019 16:10

Yes to the Naked Brand, they also do a smoked one, which we love.
We have salt and pepper tofu or in pad Thai
I’m actually not a veggie ( dd is ) but I really like Tofu

Buy the firm. I like it griddled.

Or from the local Chinese - deep fried in a spicy chilly sauce oh yum.
