Can we talk about the plant kitchen range please

What has everyone tried?

Had the cauli popcorn which was lush, and the cashew mac which was really tasty and a super lazy dinner with some spring greens on the side.

I’ve had the dirty fries - chips, spicy tomato sauce, dairy-free bechamel and grated cheese. It was delicious.

fermezzlabouche · 10/01/2019 20:28

I was tempted by those but thought I'd better not buy everything. There's a jackfruit pizza that's going to be next weeks treat.

Ours had RFQS discounts this week so I tried the coleslaw (disappointingly vinegary/salad creamy) and the aubergine with quinoa (nice but not worth the full price). Tomorrow is dirty fries day @shedonealready , I'm excited for those as I was sadly eyeing up the non-vegan ones before Christmas. I feel the range is expensive for what it is, (£4 sausages / small portions), but great that they've finally swung our way after years of putting butter in everything!

choppolata · 10/01/2019 20:37

@fermezz my local Aldi has canned jackfruit for £1.09 if you catch the jackfruit bug Grin I may have just bought 6 cans.

TheTroutofNoCraic · 10/01/2019 20:39

I looked at it and was a bit 'meh'...prices very high for things you can make for a lot less at home...and not overly healthy options either.

KimchiLaLa · 10/01/2019 20:43

Just found a 10% voucher on my sparks, not much but it will do. I will try to get some dishes over the weekend and let you know what works!

fermezzlabouche · 10/01/2019 20:56

@choppolata already bought a few cans too and text my friend to tell her how cheap they were. A few months ago I'd be very lucky to manage to get jackfruit from Waitrose and it was three times the cost. I'd mostly have to go a specialist vegan shop 30 mins drive away for these things. Loving the vegan hype and all the options it's bringing!

I saw someone else say the coleslaw was vinegary and as slaw is so easy to make and i much prefer homemade with all the red cabbage I doubt I'll bother with it.

@fermezz great minds! I was getting mine from Ocado for 2.99 Grin

DavedeeDozyBeakyMickandTich · 10/01/2019 21:17

I have tried the cauliflower poppers, cashew mac, dirty fries, BBQ pizza, potato salad and coleslaw. I thought all were delicious but it's the sort of thing I'd buy in as an occasional treat instead of a takeaway as it's a bit expensive and quite high salt/fat content for just a day to day meal. Agree about potato salad/coleslaw being easy and much nicer homemade but still nice to have the option to buy a ready made version for convenience.

Off topic but I also had a Gregg's vegan sausage roll today, that was a surreal experience as I've not even been in a Gregg's for years! But it was really good. Again just nice to have a convenience option.

SheDoneAlreadyDoneHadHerses · 10/01/2019 21:19

chopp you won’t regret it! Small portion but I had a fruit platter afterwards to try and make up for the chips Grin

HandsOffMyRights · 12/01/2019 07:39

I've had the pizza, delicious, but you only get half a pizza for £3 (it was £3.80 in the local M&S garage). Expensive but so good. I've bought the Waitrose vegan pizza (massive) for a similar price so will try that.

The lasagne, I didn't enjoy at all. I didn't realise it was quorn style (not keen on 'fake' meat) and it just tasted 'cheap'

The aubergine Quinoa was nice, but there wasn't much of it and it didn't fill me - fine with a jacket potato maybe. Fortunately, they'd been reduced.

I have a Moroccon dish to try next.

Just changing the store, I had a nice vegan pie from Waitrose. It's range looks good but expensive again.

Onemorefireball · 12/01/2019 08:05

I thought the coleslaw was great! Had a pizza for tea last night and that was good too.

tinyradish · 12/01/2019 11:00

I think I'm the only person that liked the lasagne! Yum.

HandsOffMyRights · 12/01/2019 18:31

Tried the mexican grains one tonight. Tasty. More filling than the aubergine one. Pizza still favourite yum.

fermezzlabouche · 12/01/2019 19:24

@HandsOffMyRights let us know what you think about the Waitrose pizza

Getting an easy pizza is so exciting, and although both expensive options still much cheaper than having a takeaway pizza.

I had the sausages today. They were ok. My dirty fries are in the freezer waiting for DrunkChoppolata to discover them. Grin

fermezzlabouche · 12/01/2019 20:21

I imagine the dirty fries would be amazing when drunk 😍

kikisparks · 13/01/2019 11:51

Caul popcorn, dirty fries and aubergine dish were lush. Teriyaki tofu was quite nice.

Lasagne was ok.

Didn’t like Asian grains.

kikisparks · 13/01/2019 11:52

Oh and pizza was ok and sausages were quite good. I didn’t like the chicken nuggets but most people seem to.

cushioncovers · 18/01/2019 14:42

I've had the Christmas turkeyless sandwich and the roasted veg & avocado sandwich. Both delicious. Would definitely buy them again.

cushioncovers · 19/01/2019 11:15

Also tried the 'beef' burgers last night and it was tasty I really enjoyed it.

Whatsnewwithyou · 21/01/2019 19:22

I loved the chicken nuggets, aubergine, coleslaw, tikka masala and lasagne. The mushroom stroganoff was quite nice. The pizza was good but not as good as the one I make using the jusrol sourdough pizza dough. The cauliflower popcorn was great and the dirty fries were good too.
