Depending on the type of pet you have the answer will vary but say you have a dog who is naturally carnivorous... what do you feed it? do you feed it meat? im a veggie getting a dog next week and all i want is the best health for my dog you see my dilemma?

I had my cat before I was vegan, he has a meat diet

I'm vegan, fostering a cat for a few months, and feeding her standard meat / fish cat food. Cats are obligate carnivores.

I do know of vegans who will only feed pets vegan food and take the view that if that's the case, they should get a rabbit not a cat.

DM is vegetarian and her dog eats a meat based dry food. She doesn't think it's best for him to eat veggie.

Yeah I thought the whole having a pet thing wasn't allowed if you're vegan.
A "real" one at least (that's not my words but I've heard someone say someone is not a real vegan for this reason - and the pet wasn't even a meat eating animal)
Ridiculous competitive veganess.

If you care about animals, feed them the diet they want not the diet you want. And if you can't do that don't have a pet.

Yeah I don't worry about levels of veganism. Anything that moves towards a cruelty free lifestyle/diet/ethos is fine by me.

Several of my friends have now cut out red meat and changed to free range eggs another has changed to oat milk and cut out pig meat of any kind after watching bits that I've shared in fb. I'm thrilled that they've decided to make those changes themselves without any militant lecturing from me.

Once lab grown meat becomes mainstream in years to come I think it will change the pet food industry completely.

My dog gets a high quality, high meat content kibble, she can't be fit and healthy and do her job as a hypo dog without the best food.
It is the only animal product that comes into my house

I’ve discovered a humane/high welfare dry cat food which my cat seems to like - it’s horrifically expensive but thankfully she doesn’t have a huge appetite. I wouldn’t feed her a vegan diet so this is my compromise....although I suppose “true” vegans wouldn’t have a cat in the first place as their whole lifestyle would say it was unethical (as PP says)
