Fussy toddler!

DH and I went pescatarian in January and vegan about 3 months ago so veganism is fairly new to us we've had to problem veganising our current diet but for my toddler I'm struggling.

She's 2.5 and currently will only eat a handful of meals so she eats chicken nuggets, fish fingers, pizza, pasta, chips... All the standard beige food. She will also eat brocolli, green beans, and baked beans by the bucket load as well as fruit and fruit juice so it's not all terrible. She also prefers her food separate at the moment so things like risotto or pasta and sauce are off the cards. Confused

I don't really like buying meat for her but at this point I just want her fed.

Does anyone have any ideas for me to help transition DD to vegan or at least vegetarian for the time being!

Thank you Grin

Does she like Falafel? If she's into that sort of thing, then you can turn anything into a 'ball' / 'finger' - lentils balls, chick peas, lots of different flavours and herbs.

Pasta - make pesto without cheese.
Potato wedges / sweet potato wedges
Pizza - loaded with things she likes, minus the cheese.

I have picky ones too, so I feel your pain!

Not the healthiest, but neither is the real thing, but would she eat vegan fish fingers and chicken nuggets? You can get some really nice ones now.

Pasta with tomato based sauce or vegan pesto

I wouldn't really be pushing it though, is there a reason you want her to be vegan other than just because you and your partner are? I would suggest vegetarian would be a better compromise as she will still be getting her calcium (possible from vegan diet bit difficult if fussy) and more of a range of meals she can have like pizza, pasta with cheese, cheese sandwich, yoghurt, cereal etc

Would second buying vegan quorn chicken nuggets and fish fingers. Will she drink soya or oat milk? Eat vegan cheese? I was a fussy vegetarian child eating limited things and turned out fine. A multivitamin is a must whether she goes vegan or not since her diet is quite restrictive.

Thanks all!

She's so fussy at the moment. I keep trying to introduce new foods but they either get left of her plate untouched or she looks at it decides she doesn't like it and I have to remove it!!

I can't complain too hard though because as I say, green veg is always eaten and she eats plenty of fruit and soya yoghurts.

I guess we just plod away at it and eventually filter out her meat/dairy. Smile
