Substitute for sour cream?

Hi - I eat plant based about 90% of the time, but am a sucker for cheese and sour cream. I am doing my meal prep for the week and wondering if there is a readily-available substitute for sour cream for a topping on baked spuds etc? I have Googled recipes, but to be honest I know i won't make them... I'd love something shop bought and handy. Any recommendations? I have used plain alpro yogurt before, but found it quite sweet.

You can buy vegan sour cream, Tesco do one. Also Oatly creme fraiche would work well.

Oh brilliant, thanks. I rarely shop in tesco but there is one near my work, so will pop in at lunchtime. I am now excited about a baked spud rock and roll

Good luck! My best advice though is to avoid dairy subs for a while before you start trying them, if you’ve just eaten real dairy and then you eat a sub it will taste weird, but over time your tastebuds will adapt.

I used to not eat dairy at all, but I gradually started making exceptions (excuses) if I was out. Then at home. I haven't found a fake cheese that I like, so will probably just cut it out altogether, but I love something cold/sour on taco beans for example. So maybe fake sour cream will be my new "thing"

Soak cashews in water for about four hours, then drain and blend with a dash of cider vinegar and chopped spring onions.

The oatley creme fresh is lovely especially when cooking with added nutritional yeast (ok so I'm addicted to nutritional yeast I admit this 🤷‍♀️) I find the daiya cheese substitute is the nicest (especially on pizza)or as pp suggested cashew is gorgeous

The Tesco one is in their free from section, not the fridge section, and comes in a plastic squeezy tube like their mayonnaise. I wasn't a massive fan tbh. There's one by the brand 'follow your heart' (who make Vegannaise) which is apparently really good but you'd probably only find that in a health food shop!

Whizz up silken tofu, lemon juice and red wine vinegar for definitely the nicest vegan sour cream I've had.
