Hi everyone, I need a little help please.

As the title says, 17 yr old DD has just decided to be a vegan. She isn’t keen on nuts or beans/pulses. I can’t afford to increase the grocery budget.

How can I / she ensure she isn’t constantly hungry?

TIA

I don't think referring to it as a 'whim' is entirely fair. It is a very serious choice to lots of people and good on her for doing what she believes it, it may just take a bit more doing!

And I say that as a meat eater!!

Why suddenly vegan from full on carnivore?

Because lots of people can’t go back to eggs and dairy after discovering that these industries are just as awful as the meat industry.

OP if you want to find out where your DD is coming from watch Land of Hope & Glory on YouTube.

Thanks Zeze I’ll have a look at that.

Can you suggest she do some research around how to eat healthily as a vegan? She needs to understand that things like beans and lentils aren’t really optional. It’s also helpful to like tofu and quorn, and to learn to make seitan! There’s a book called ‘Becoming Vegan’ that is very, very good on this.

Also impress on her that there are some supplements she will definitely need to take. B12 is the big one but things like iodine are often forgotten too.

Good luck to her-I wish I’d had the courage of my convictions at 17 and not waited until I was in my 30s!
