I've tried but they weren't as nice, but I use a really good non stick pan and then only need a small amount of oil.

Melassa · 03/09/2017 11:12

I tried baking but they weren't anywhere near as good, not crispy enough on the outside and even drier than normal. In this case frying really is the best option. You do need the falafel to be floating in the oil so they're cooked all around.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 03/09/2017 16:30

I don't float mine, I don't use loads of oil.

Efferlunt · 03/09/2017 16:48

I've not made any for ages but I've had good results in the slo-cooker. Coat with oil pop the falafel in and leave for a few hours. They don't even seem to need turning

StatueInTheSky · 03/09/2017 16:52

last time i looked for recipes some were uncooked but soaked chickpeas...I was very Hmm about that....is it not like kidney beans that have to be cooked or you die horribly ??

so i whizzed up a tin instead, and we all lived to tell the tale, but they did sort of waft about in the hot oil like they wanted to disintegrate

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 03/09/2017 17:10

You have to add a bit of flour to canned chick peas. Also the best ones I've found are from Aldi, next best Waitrose

RandomMess · 03/09/2017 17:13

Buy ours from Aldi chilled!

banivani · 04/09/2017 15:30

Chickpeas can be eaten raw, but you're right, most beans can't. Quick google gave me no reputable links, just food nutters ;)

Melassa · 04/09/2017 20:14

Most beans and lentils can be eaten raw, that's how chick pea flour and other lentil flours for dosas and the like are made. Also bean sprouts are raw beans. I think it is only kidney beans that are an issue and need to be boiled vigorously, I remember a programme form the 80s I think that gave out this warning and I've nuked my kidneys since!

Not a recipe but the sweet potato ones from Asda are brilliant. Even my DH loves them! Wink

Fekko · 04/09/2017 20:38

I use a packet mix from the health food shop Blush

RandomMess · 04/09/2017 20:42

Also now had sweet potato ones!

If I cook them first do you reckon I can then freeze them as DD has eaten them and are going out of date Angry

Buy Osem Falafel mix. It's the business!
