Vegan friendly Cosmetics

Hello!

I am not vegan yet, but have been slowly making my way there since I did Veganuary this year, with a few lapses.

I am concentrating on food for now, but am trying to get to know a bit more about which cosmetics, toiletries and make up I should be buying / avoiding.

Wonder if anyone has any tips or recommendations at all?

Holland and Barrett have some good things - I am trying the toothpaste this week. I was sceptical I would find a vegan natural deodorant that would actually work for me - but I did with their rock salt one!

Phil Smith shampoos and conditioners are lush and are vegan and cruelty free. Often on offer in sainsburies. The co op and sainsburies own brand are but I didn't find the products as good. They are fine for hand soap though.

Method cleaning products are cruelty free as are Ecover washing products.

rockaby I would think it fine as it is vegan - I wouldn't worry .

I've used the Paul Smith shampoo before, so it's good to know it's cruelty free.

The Astonish household cleaning range are all vegan and cruelty free; they have the PETA leaping bunny on them. Urban Decay cosmetics are mainly vegan, all cruelty free.
Superdrug have the vegan B range of cosmetics.

Yes that's great about Superdrug. I get a few things in there and they are great. Great value.

I would recommend the Logical Harmony blog who keeps an up to date list on cruelty freeness and vegan suitability. It's US based but most products are available here and uk brands are included too.

You also need to consider whether parent companies are a problem for you, ie. if Urban Decay are cruelty free but owned by L'Oréal are you ok with that. Some people are, some aren't.

I feel that voting with our money can point companies in the right direction...though you're right about L'Oreal, wouldn't touch them with a barge pole.

Aarrgghh...all these bloody companies owning each other. Shame we can't go back to the days when X owned only X, and Y owned themselves.

Vegan Womble has supermarket vegan lists which are so handy and comprehensive. They include toiletries, cosmetics, cleaning products and food.

Have a look at the Oakie soapy soap shop in not on the high street and etsy.

The lady that runs it is fab, all their products are handmade and vegan society approved.

The oatmeal and calendula soap is amazing on sensitive skin

I don't know if you can get it in the UK but ELF cosmetics are great for make up, totally vegan and very affordable

Everything Morrisons own brand for shampoo conditioner and bath foam :) all the original source shower gel too! Obviously lush! Liz Earle is vegan.
Neals yard is cruelty free as well! I'm not big on make up but these are Beauty things I use!

Their versions of chubby sticks are fab.

I think M and S have their own brand of cruelty free cosmetics as well.

LUSH are awesome. Been using them for years. Never disappointed.

Lots of lush products have honey and even milk in, some have lanolin.

Was going to say ELF but someone suggested it already! M&S have some vegan stuff too (you need to check online it's not branded in store).

The whole Yes To line are very good. Only a handful of their products aren't vegan and it's pretty clear which aren't - they tend to have milk or honey in them.

Paul Mitchell products are cruelty free, plus the company refuse to sell in countries that require animal testing (China, for example).

Simple products are all animal-free.
