A property on the beach

Hi.
Its my DH's 40th this year and I was thinking of us and a few friends with kids hiring an apartment or cottage on a beach somewhere. There will be 10 of us (6 adults 4 kids). It'll be October but the weather won't worry us. It would be nice if I could organise some kite surfing or something like that nearby. Anyone got any ideas. DH is from Cornwall so preferably somewhere else would be good. It would be really nice to have direct access onto the beach or at least nice views of the sea.

Try Crantock. There are some lovely cottages in the village with easy access to a lovely beach.

OrmRenewed · 28/06/2010 15:28

Oh sorry! Somewhere else... OK.

Beach retreats have some lovely properties around Watergate Bay which has an extreme sports going on. Above Beaches have properties in Porthleven many of which overlook the sea and is a reasonable price esp for Cornwall.

Robin Hoods bay has some lovely properties like this. The beach is full of fossils which the kids might enjoy searching for. Or how about Whitby?

Saunton Sands

Couldn't get much nearer a beach! Near Saunton, Croyde and Putsborough. Would probably need to rent 2 though.

Thank you everyone. I now have his friends on board and we have a good budget so I am now on the big hunt. I was looking for places outside Cornwall as my DH comes from there and it would be nice to go somewhere relatively new. I was looking at Croyde, Ilfracombe, the Gower and places within easy reach of the Midlands and London. We will have to doa Friday and Saturday night. I'll keep looking.

Saunton is near Croyde.

llareggub · 29/06/2010 19:13

I'd love to stay here.

Spoo · 29/06/2010 20:07

I will look at Saunton. Thanks OrmRenewed. llareggub - that is the sort of thing I was looking for maybe not as historic (though I do love the old style cottages). Unfirtunately its not quite big enough. We have 6 adults and 4 kids so I think it would be too much of a squeeze! Lovely beach though.

We're staying here for a week later on this month. Actually, we're going to be in the adjoining property but that seems to be fully booked for Oct. It looks good for kite-surfing and is right on the beach.
