I've booked for us (2 adults, 6yr old DS, 4yr old DD) to go to Bognor (in our own caravan) this whit for 7 days. Thought it would give us good access to Brighton and Portsmouth. Other than Butlins, what can you recommend in/around the area? We're National Trust members so will prob be going to Petworth and Uppark on rainy days, plus intend to go to Historic Dockyards in Portsmouth. Other free/cheap days out would be good. Thanks.

Arundel Castle is great - you can go on the motte and bailey tower thingy.

go to arundel by boat from littlehampton. also the weald and downland museum (google it for address) is a great day out. Fishbourne roman palace, that might be english heritage rather than national trust though. day trip across to IOW as foot passengers is not expensive either.

West Wittering beach is lovely.

The air museum at Tangmere is quite good. See if there are special days at Fishbourne - took mine during Feb half term and they had great fun making clay lamps and tasting roman food. The dock yard tickets are valid for up to a year and there is more than a days worth of stuff to see - so maybe plan for 2 days there. Also Southsea funfair - used to love that.

We thought Arundel Castle quite pricey for what it was - and we didn't do the interior as our kids were similar age to yours. I gather it's better when there are special events on. Better value for us was the Wetland Centre over the road.
