Anyone been? I want to take Ds1 and DS2 next weekend as DS2 is doing a school topic on minibeasts. I'd like to know whether the butterfly bit is worth the trip - ie., are there lots, do they fly around and land on you?. DS2 is autistic, so don't want to get him all excited for a few cabbage whites .
TIA

I haven't been for about 5 years, but when I went there were lots of butterflies, some very exotic looking.

If your DS2 has sensory issues, you may want to warn him that it is very hot and humid, and drops of water may fall on him unexpectedly, that there are various heaters that can be quite noisy & that he may be able to smell strong flower perfumes & the rotting fruit that some of the insects feed on.

Thanks Rusty - he's not sensitive to smells except fish (!) and I don't think the heat would bother him. The water he would love! Noise from heaters might be the only thing...

Well, it must be seven or eight years since we were there - maybe they will have got some new quieter heaters since then.

Though, if he doesn't like the smell of fish, you might want to avoid the otters - or at least their feeding time...

It's only if it's very strong - round harbours and things, so would probably be all right.
