Inspiration needed please

I'm pondering where to go at Easter - dp and I plus two girls aged 15 and 12. Could anybody tell me if Brighton or Whitby would be good? Or should we aim for London or Edinburgh maybe?

And if you know any wonderful hotel recs for any of the above - even better!

Any Science interest? Edinburgh Science Festival is always at Easter, and is absolutely superb. All sorts of things going on to suit a variety of interests.

Edinburgh Science Festival

We've been twice in the past 4 years and the boys would love to go again. A physics prof at one of the universities was trying to persuade ds1 that he really must go and study particle physics there. I don't think he realised that ds1 was only 11 at the time!

dh and I stayed near Whitby last week (child-free) . I love it, but I don't really think it's a place for children/teenagers, personally. But maybe that's just because I grew up near there and always used to get dragged round the place and found it rather tiresome.

If you want that neck of the woods I would go for York every time, or even Scarborough, rather than Whitby.

For us on short break hols there's always the draw of a big city/culture. I guess for you that's not such an issue as you're don't in the deepest darkest depths of the provinces.

I personally love Whitby and Brighton but would suspect the latter might be more appealing for a 15 and 12 year old (especially if they like shopping). We stayed last year at Hotel Du Vin in Brighton which was fantastic.

Edinburgh is also great - The Witchery is a lovely hotel

Are they Twilight fans? Whitby does have vampirical connections which I am sure the tourist office is not exploiting at all, oh no
Edinburgh always has loads on, and the Science Festival looks fab

They have read 'Twilight' so Whitby may appeal on that front, although dd1 saw through them and was v scathing about them!

Love Edinburgh but we've been a lot and went to York and Harrogate a couple of months ago. Would love to stay in The Witchery but doubt we could afford it!

I've never been to Brighton or Whitby, so am hoping that one of those may appeal. Cities/towns are good, as we don't drive.

What about Bath? Pretty city, stuff to do and nice countryside around.
We also went to Edinburgh last Easter and the science festival thingy was great.

Brighton was fantastic (we went for our honeymoon last year). Am I right in thinking you're a vegetarian janeite ?? Brighton has one of the most acclaimed restaurants (Terre a Terre). DH and I went for a meal there (we're both meat eaters - and DH is particularly committed !) but had a gorgeous meal. The restaurants and cafes on the whole were amazing.

Brighton is great for older children. Lots of shops, cafe, days out nearby. We live there, so perhaps I am a little biased!
