family friendly good hotel in Lake District / Yorkshire Dales / York areas?

Hi,

I'm trying to plan a holiday and deciding on where we'll go. Can anyone recommend places in Lake District, Yorkshire Dales or York that are great for families to stay at?

Anywhere in Helmsley (nr York) is fab. (I'm going to live there when I can convince dp )

thanks Bucharest. Can you recommend anywhere there to stay with 2 kids under 5? I always find it so difficult to choose as I want to make the right decision.....
