I plan on taking dh to York races in October for his birthday.

Can anyone recommend any good hotels in York that are near to the racecourse and/or the City Centre (sorry, I have no idea of the geography of the area).

Recommendations would be much appreciated, TIA

The Marriot hotel in York overlooks the race course - you could not be closer.

It's a 4 star - but a good one.

I have stayed there. Whether you rate it or not depends upon your expectations.

I generally stay in nice hotels (Lanesborough, The Savoy etc) so I find the food at the Marriot fine but nothing special, the rooms clean comfortable and presentable (but not oppulent) and the staff helpful

Oooh sounds perfect!!

Will go check it out now ...

Thanks

I live in York so no idea what the hotels are actually like but this overlooks the racecourse.

this is in the city centre short taxi ride to the racecourse

this is half way between the two

The Hotel du Vin which Northern mentions is walking distance so definitely worth considering - I haven't stayed there so can't comment, but from my knowledge of the brand elsewhere it should be a decent hotel.

I imagine either the Marriott or the Hotel du Vin would be appropriate depending upon availability.

No available rooms for the requested dates

Any other recommendations?

Oh dear - races are popular dates.

There is the Royal York at the station, the Judges Lodgings in the city centre (just down from the Minster) or there's a small place near the Minster called 4, High Petergate - it's on the same website as the Dean Court.

Northernlurker · 01/08/2009 00:08

this is outside of York but the right side for race days

Northernlurker · 01/08/2009 00:09

this is the wrong side of town for the races but is in a lovely spot and the food is great

Northernlurker · 01/08/2009 00:11

this is five minutes from the minster

No rooms at the Royal York.
None at The Parsonage.

Will email the Durham Ox, can't check availablity on-line.

...looks like their may be vacancies at the Grange, yay!

I had no idea that I needed to book so early!! What an idiot I am!
