Anyone know the North Humberside area?

We are off on holiday soon to Dacre Lakeside park, its a Hoseason holiday lodge at Brandesburton, which looks to be about halfway between Driffield and Beverley and near Hornsea too.

Just looking for some tips on where's nice to go, good food, supermarkets etc?

Beverley is nice for an afternoon out, just a small market town with nice cafes etc. You're on the main road to Bridlington, pretty much, which is a proper seaside town with fair, arcades, ice-creams and so on (I live there so I am biased!) and then about another 20 miles to Scarborough if you want a change. Brid has a big Tesco and Morrisons, and so does Beverley, and there's a smaller Tesco in Driffield. Our favourite restaurant is at the Manor Court hotel outside Bridlington - there is a traditional bit and then a really nice new Italian where they do good pizzas.

In Hull there's the Deep and a big new shopping centre. Driffield hasn't got much in the way of tourist attractions to be honest. There's a place called Cruckley Farm nearby where lots of people take kids (I've never been though). Near Hornsea there's an ice-cream place called Mr Moo's which does really nice homemade ice-cream.

That reminds me, there's a children's zoo at Sewerby Hall on the other side of Brid that is really sweet and has wallabies and penguins! There's also a playground there and great grounds for a picnic with sea views.

thanks for the great ideas, ds loves penguins so Sewerby hall sounds like a good bet, also The Deep and i think there used to be a Freeport at Hornsea is that still open?

we used to go to Scarborough as kids so i know that area a bit better but have only been to Bridlington once and i ended up buying a pair of Chanel sunglasses from an opticians for £220!

mental note...must not take credit cards!!

We holidayed in that area last year. Our favourite was Honeysuckle Farm.

We spend an afternoon in Hull: the DCs liked the transport museum and social history museum (old fashioned toys to play with)

The Deep was great but expensive so perhaps not worth it with little ones who might lack the stamina.

if you go to beverley you MUST get some burgesses ice cream - it is the best in the world!!

i remember the william wilberforce museum in hull from when i was little - it had a really effect on me.

oh might give the Deep a miss then, ds likes fish, but not that much, might save that for a rainy day!
the WW museum is a great idea too particularly as my dad loved the film they did about him "Amazing Grace" so looks like that will need to go on the list too, and ice cream always goes down well

The deep is overrated def.

Honeysuckle farm is lovely I have taken my cousin there and she loved it.

Hornsea is quieter than Brid so if you wanted a quite day on the beach then go there. Def more to do at Brid though, my DH tells me that there is a Lido there too.

Theres a swimming pool in Hornsea and in Beverley.

I am lying about the outdoor pool at Brid sorry.

anyone know what Withernsea is like?
that looks quite close to where we are going too, is it worth a visit?

Withernsea is not much of a resort, it's a bit grotty really. Hornsea is a similarly quiet town but a bit nicer.

There is an (indoor) pool at Brid with slides etc and the beaches are lovely and long. There is an outdoor paddling pool area on the south beach though. For a quiet, spacious bit of beach head right to the south end of Brid, but there isn't much in the way of amenities up there, just a cafe really. There's always acres of uncrowded sand though, while it's packed nearer town (though closer to shops/amusements and so on).

ah thanks, think i'll give Withernsea a miss then!
