Help with London geography required please

Hi there people.

I haven't got any accommodation sorted in London from 3-5 July!

I'm travelling to Kings Cross from Edinburgh with my 11 year old dd, my 10 month old dd, my Mum and my brother and his wife. We're going to visit family in Greenwich and their new baby, but would consider staying anywhere with transport links between the two. Any ideas please?!

Tried all hotels in Greenwich and all at Kings Cross but none available for less than a squillion quid! Don't really know London and would be delighted if someone could suggest a decent in between area to look which has a bit of life? Also, any family friendly hotel (pref with a restaurant) recommendations would be gratefully received...

Hmm, I wouldn't recommend Kings Cross anyway, it's v. rough round there. How about the Marriott in Regent's Park? It's not far to the tube which is all you really need to bother about. There's a nice pool there iirc.

Everywhere links together - you just hop on the tube!

We have stayed in the Holiday Inn in K's Cross before. It really isn't rough! Their restaurant is pretty dreadful but they have a v nice Indian restaurant on-site.

Travelodge in Covent Garden might be worth a look - there are lots of restaurants to choose from around there.

Ooh ys, try South Bank, it's nice round there. There's a nice Pizza Express overlooking the river & they have a 2 for 1 offer on at the moment

NB Not necessarily any need to get the tube: rail link from King's X to London bridge from where you can get the train to Greenwich; also, South Bank is between Waterloo East and London Bridge stations, from both of which you can get the train to Greenwich. If it's at all hot at street level, Tube is bad enough on your own but with kids and not confident of where you're going, don't do it unless you really, really have to.

We stayed at the premier inn county hall a while back, and it was fantastic value. It's not the lap of luxury but the location is unbeatable right at westminster bridge.

Dc loved the all you can eat breakfasts! You only pay for adults, kids brekkie is free.
Lots of lovely restaurants about 2 mins walk away at southbank centre.

Hi Hanaflower, is South Bank the same as Southwark?

Everything else is full (except the Marriot which is over £1k for 2 nights - way outside my budget as was hoping no more than £400-£500 tops).

p.s. jkklpu thank you for your advice - I have never really sussed London. It's just massive. Esp compared to Edinburgh which is walkable! Would you recommend the DLR? I don't mind the underground tho, even with sprogs tbh. Esp as the grownups will outnumber the kids for a change!

South Bank and Southwark are the same place.

DLR is great for getting to Greenwich (just answering on others' behalf to cut down delay if you want to get in quickly!)

My best friend lives in Blackheath (next door to Greenwich) and they've had family staying at the Holiday Inn Express down there here.

Have you tried there?

Also why not try the holiday inn/travelodge etc in Canary Wharf - you might have more luck there

what about a serviced flat ? i found a huge choice when i looked to book one for august , if you could spend 200- 250/night for all of oyu you shouldn't have a problem and then you get a kitchen, living room etc. look on londonchoice

I think there's a Holiday Inn in Euston that is reasonable

We have stayed with this company in one of their properties off Royal Hill in Greenwich twice.
