Some friends (who I will love forever) have offered to have the dc for a night as we have not had a "night off" since ds1 was born over four years ago.

We want to go to a gastropub with rooms/ hotel/ b&b near nice restaurant within an hour's drive of essex - does anyone have any ideas? Nothing too extortionate sadly

this one is lovely....great beach walks nearby. And lots of dining awards.

Great House at Lavenham is fabulous - I suspect you could only get a one night booking if you are prepared to go mid-week or a deeply unfashionable time of year (NOvember or February).

Baumanns in coggleshall is a lovely restaurant, not sure about accomodation, but I am sure there must be a B and B there, its a lovely village too.

We've stayed at the Salthouse Harbour Hotel in Ipswich before and really enjoyed it. Ipswich isn't exactly romantic, admittedly...

Melbourn has Sheene Mill and the Pink Geranium. Both have excellent reputations. You'll have to make your own mind up about whether they are too extortionate.

Oooh thanks everyone will check out the links.

I second The Great House and Baumanns. We got engaged at The Great House and stayed in a beautiful room with a four poster bed and the food was wonderful, especially the cheese board! We ate at Baumanns last weekend and as usual the food was great and the atmosphere really lively as well. I've been hearing good things about The Crown in Stoke by Nayland too.

We are staying at the salthouse next month. Looks gorgeus although Ipswich looks grim!
