Half term help please!!!!

I need to find somewhere to take the kids for half term. I don't feel like driving more then 4 hours from London (would love to take them on the train and do a holiday without a car) and stay in hostels somewhere so can go further with train. Can anyone recommend anywhere? The kida are 15, 13, 9 & 6. Please help!!!!

what about getting a train to york and staying in york for a couple of days, there is the viking museum, dungeons, railway museums, shops. There are plenty of websites so you can plan what you want to do when you go.

I used to live in York so have done that to death but it is my standby if I cant think of anything. Thanks though. It is a great place to visit.
