Butlins? Do I or dont I.........?

The power of the clever Butlins advertising has got to my DS, despite the lovely holidays we've taken him on he's begging to go to Butlins instead. In these crunchy times a cheap holiday could be good though. We are thinking of Bognor either Silver Plus or in the hotel. Any advice or suggestions?

Sunday Times had this to say about Butlins:

Ever tried Butlins? Yes, we?re serious ? and before you flip to the next item, consider two things. First, 50 free activities are included in the price, from fierce fencing sessions to twee Angelina Ballerina dance classes ? your little scrappers and prancers will go mad for it. Second, it?s good value ? a week at Bognor, where they?re spending big on landscaping and new activities, starts at £688/£900 for a family of four. We reckon it?s going to be rather trendy this year, so book early ? by summer, the car park will be full of Chelsea tractors.

DS1 went with GP's and he LOVED it. Would say go for the GOLD accomadation though. It might not be your cup of tea but kids will have a great time

We have been a few times now. It isn't our cup of tea, but the children really love it. I agree about go for best accommodation you can afford and we went half board once and I will NEVER do that again! Self catering is fine though.
We've been to Minehead, not Bognor, but HTH.

Don't go!!!! We HATED it. But we do go on caravaning holidays (Haven and Hoeseasons) both of which we enjoy.

i think butlins is like marmite you either love it or hate it i have been going for years and our daughters 15 and 5 love it there is so much to do indoors if weather not good
minehead area is better than bognor but all have same entertainment etc so i would say give it a try.

Go, its great! We took the kids last year and are going again in May. Lets face it if their happy, your happy! Yes there are quite a few chavy types there without meaning to sound snobby but on the whole its fantastic also much cheaper than OP quoted if you can go off season. We have paid approx £140 for a family of 4 for a 4 night break. This is based on the standard self catering which although basic is clean and comfortable.

£900!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! for Butlins lol

Looked into Gold Apartment in Skegness for September for 4 nights, for myself and 2 dd's.
As dh will be away, would have to pay £75 under occupancy fee.

4 nights self catering in Butlins, £300 if I book now, or £458 later on, don't think so somehow!!!

By the time you add in food, fuel to get there, I would be looking at, at least £750.

Could go away to the sun for a full week/2 weeks for that!!!
